Continental Headlight Adjustment

Firstly Hi to everyone !!

Just wondering if anyone has any working knowledge on whether the headlights on a L322 TD6 (2004) can be adjusted for continental use. I am a soldier and will be based there next year. All cars in Germany have to have a light test for their MOTs

I have searched German ebay for headlights and they are 4 times more expensive, one ebayer wanted 600 euro for one ...

Any help would be appreciated

xixal

Mick is right, but I have a friend over on RRSport.co.uk who has a LHD UK spec Sport on UK plates in Belgium, he has his first UK MOT next month and reckons that using that switch is only temporary and his Sport will fail it's MOT as he has headlights that dip for LHD - the beam is flattened on one side and isn't acceptable for testing/inspection purposes as the fiat area is on the wrong side as the headlights dip for LHD............ Just as well I have a complete spare set of UK adaptive headlight units for my old car (OK so they have Audi styler LEDs in them, but otherwise they are standard adaptive units) that he has now purchased just so he can get through the UK test.
Your best option might be to bite the bullet and buy a pair of LHD units via a UK dealer and have them fitted and aligned before you go to Germany. Lookers Park Royal parts department should be able to help, as should any other UK Land Rover outlet. fitting replacement light units is quite easy as they slide on and out of position without having to take half the car to pieces, but you must make sure the key is out of the ignition before you touch the lamp units to avoid electric shock if they are the BiXenon units as there is an unbelievable voltage across them to trigger the Xenon 2018 Mini Countryman Cooper S E All4 PHEV in Melting Silver - it’s whisper quiet in EV and polluter modes

hi mate i am a serving soldier and i got some bad news for you your lights can be adjusted to go over to germany however as said it is only a temp thing. BFG rules and light test will not accept the headlight adjustment and you will require a whole new set of headlights to get it through BFG . (perhaps you could use your disturbance allowence to buy them lol) have you tried the headlightshop .com

where are you going in BFG i go to Hohne next year (deep joy) bring on the LOA and half price fuel Thumbs Up

best regards

Hi Guys, thanks for all your comments.

My suspicions were right and backed up by AndyW's comments, looks light I'm going to have to pay for a LHD set.

AndyW, not sure if you know that the LOA in Germany is going down approx £150 - 200 dependant upon your circumstances. I am based out in Cyprus and we've just lost £350 in the last 6 weeks.

My son is based out in Hohne (REME), currently in Afghan My posting next year will hopefully be either Munster, Paderborn or Herford. My other half has family in Osnabruck (served there in the early eighties and middle nineties)

Best regards

at the risk of going off topic havn't heard that about LOA

might look into it however sounds like a rumour, as it does not add up to the way it is calculated

i spent 12 years in paderborn great place. Anyway all other members of the forum will now not undestand what we are going on about.

Hi Al,

Yeah, miss the place too - it was a gleaming posting. Shame the Garrison has closed down eh!

I was in the LAD there between 94 and 98. Did the ETB tour 94-95, and after was mainly with Recce (BATUS & Bosnia) after a short stint with A Coy.

How 'bout you?

When you take all the costs into account Scarey it's going to be cheaper to buy a spare set of headlights! He can always sell the units on ebay when he comes back to the UK, or even in Germany. I know from selling the set of RRS Adapative headlight units that I had, that the price in the UK is a lot less than buying them in Europe. 2018 Mini Countryman Cooper S E All4 PHEV in Melting Silver - it’s whisper quiet in EV and polluter modes

@ scarey:

No can do I'm afraid, the vehicle in question has to be registered on the British Forces Germany (BFG) network, and as such is tested over in Germany at authorised testing centres - usually within a Garrison Workshop.

I've known people swap headlights with a friend specifically for the test... Just a temporary measure of course. Whistle
