Didn't think it would happen to me!

I didn't think it would happen to me but 3 days into a three week you around Europe the gearbox decided to go without any warning at all in Switzerland of all places(=££££££££££££££££££££!). Left car there and now in Austria with hire car hoping to find out today what is going to happen. Big Cry

Seem to be a lot of recent posts suggesting gearbox gremlins touching many different model years and petrol/ diesel variants right up to 2010MY...

SC gearboxes were never really thought to be a concern before... Has your ZF gearbox been 'serviced' yet Stan?

Did yours have a Megaflush Stan or 'just' the oil and filter change... Ours had 'just' the oil and filter changed, done as part of the kit you can buy?

Presuming a Megaflush not necessary on the ZF gearbox and most "should I Megaflush should I not Megaflush" debates are more debates to be had reference the GM gearbox? Embarassed

Thanks.

I think if you start to have doubts about the ongoing reliability of a car and it then starts to impinge on making any sort of long trip, it's time to move on.
My recent split hose incident definitely made me think about my future as a RR owner. Whistle Got - 2017 SDV8 Autobiography in Loire Blue

I was thinking that Alan... For all the trouble we've had with ours, it is a fact that it has never 'broken down' as such, it's all pretty much been me noticing things that I've thought weren't quite right that merited closer professional inspection, resulting in the car being booked into the garage and then repairs being declared as necessary.

Touch wood I never actually think of this car being one that would foreseeably let the driver down on a short or long distance trip and the confidence in the car is supported by a 2 year LR warranty/ breakdown cover.

Hang on, what was that thud... the engine's on the driveway Laughing

Just being positive, my 02 v8 and my 07 v8 on lpg are doing fine without any problems......

Or shouldn't I have said that? Well no I trust these cars!

Edited to say that I feel very sorry about your car going sour Terry, hope it's not to expensive!

By the way, i have a receipt for a gearbox refurb (paid by the previous owner) for approx CHF 6500, which is £4200 - and that was 5 years ago. If you can get it to Germany there are much cheaper options, e.g.

You can drive to Germany to the town BIELEFELD, there is a specialist, who repairs in one day incl. cleaning the pipes and changing the oilcooler (the importantst!), you will pay cash incl. new oil and service-work and NEW torque converter around 2.500,-Euro (2000 GBP), and you drive back to GB in the evening very happy....
