A remap cannot remove turbo lag (or more accurately lower boost threshold) - a specific turbo physically needs a certain amount of exhaust gas to get it spinning fast enough to create the desired boost pressure - nothing an electronic tune can do is going to change that by a meaningful amount. Low boost threshold is obviously a key issue for the engineers developing turbocharged engines, so to think there's any degree of it which some random with a laptop and a generic remap file can remove is wishful.

A remap migh remove flat spots (maybe where the manufacturer has tuned for economy), it might increase the fuelling for the same degree of accelerator travel (to give the impression of better throttle response), but it can't change the laws of physics - whatever they tell you.

I read on here somewhere that the car normally pulls away in second and that the time it takes for the boost to spool up and the gearbox to realise you are serious (and therefore drop to first) is why the car feels sluggish from pull away and then, if you continue to boot it, it sets off liked a stabbed rat.

Yes, that's one of the big differences, the Porsche went back to 1st at stop without my intervention whereas the RR doesn't.

Yep you are not the only one, the pull away lag annoys me too. Most of the time I just the flappy paddles when moving from the lights, as I find it a bit quicker.

My previous 2 RRS's also had some lag when pulling away, so I'm not sure if it might be an LR thing. Confused 2014 SDV8 Autobiography Cool

Using manual mode is great when getting a move on, it seems to let the engine rev really well, better than just Sport, the only negative is the refusal to drop to 1st.

I can understand why from a refinement perspective but for me it would be so much nicer having more response from stop and from low speeds, something the 5.0 will no doubt give, but with added hunting of the gearbox, which the SDV8 doesn't do.

Understood - and I'm no expert on ECU's, but there was definitely a spot when you were already rolling slowly, then hit the gas, that my 3.6 really didn't respond to.

Whatever the BAS remap did, be it engine, gearbox or something else, sorted it out & made progress smoother in that particular scenario.

It made it quicker overall, that wasn't my primary motivation for the map - but was a welcome result Thumbs Up

I don't find the SDV8 a problem - but would love to try a remapped one just to see Very Happy

That's exactly what Im hoping to sort too, don't care what it does, if its better after tuning then that's the aim here

Trommel correct no amount of electronic messing will beat the laws of physics.

As the FFRR is an accomplished off roader the starting in second with a seemingly lazy throttle response may be to avoid spinning the wheels and digging in when on slippery surfaces. There has been a gearbox software update to change those settings.

Hi Nick, do you mean software update to improve driveability from stop? Do you have any info, my car is at the dealer 30th June so may ask them about it?

Yes Carlos50,

AFAIK it is a software update which changes the parameters that select first to pull away in - in response to too many complaints of 'turbo lag'.

Thanks Nick, have emailed the service advisor at my local dealer to ask the question, it would be great if that is a possible update?

Hi Nick, its no surprise but the dealer has no idea what I am talking about, saying no outstanding updates exist for my car, do you have more details please?

Thanks

Carl

Would imagine that the starting in second business is to do with fuel economy.
