Racked off!!! ;)

Have a bush gone in the RR TDV8 steering rack. My friendly Indie sat me down before giving a price for a new rack, good job too... 1800 exvat!!

He did say that if i can get the bush off, it will be more like a 50 quid job, which id rather go for but it may not be removable, only the disco 3s and sports have the removable ones..?

Has anyone had the bush go, under the rubber garter, and is it removable? its on the drivers side.

Cheers! Smile

Probably. Not done a FFRR personally but I have done loads of others, all teh same principle really. See if you can get a service kit from ZF.

Also take a look at this thread.

Thanks mate

Seems that they point that the nylon bush can be replaced easily/cheaply...

Spanners out i guess.!

Turns out im really not sure if this is a bush.

I was only going on what my indie has said.

trying to find out what the heck this clunk noise is coming from.... happens when i go from lock to lock. its a pretty decent clunk, quite loud and can feel it when driving. No excessive play in the steering rack.

i got a friend to turn the wheel from side to side whilst i was underneith, feeling all the joints. the only joint that i could feel some movement was the LH tie bar.

Just wondering if anyone has had this issue and what they did to cure it!! (im not excluding the rack.... just want to get a few options before!)

cheers

As far as I can tell you are referring to the inner track rod joint, as that is what is under the gaiter.

Definitely changeable, part is cheap and it's easy to change.

Had both of mine done, get the lemforder ones as these are oem, and not much more than the aftermarket ones. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

I would also suspect the inner track rod - the LHS one on mine went and it used to clunk noticeably

Local indie changed it for £60 including the part (I'm sure it's not OEM but 30k miles later it's still fine) 2007 Zermatt Silver TDV8 Vogue SE - now sold but was a great car!

Check the rack securing bolts too... Have found a couple loose now which creates the most hideous knocking noise! Rolling Eyes

One big nut & bolt either side... Takes a huge torque figure to tighten them from memory Thumbs Up

Given I don't have a torque wrench (must get one) I do a lot of "tightening from memory" Very Happy .
