Best place to buy Lifeguard 6?

Where's the best place to buy Lifeguard 6 for my 6HP26 gearbox?

I need to carry out a double change, so 14 litres I should think.

I can buy this quantity on ebay for £231.80 including delivery, but is it the genuine Lifeguard 6, or could it be banana juice in the bottle?

Any suggestions greatly appreciated. Thumbs Up

Difficult to say if that L6 is real. I would suggest to also change the filter by the way.

There is a set (filter plus 7 liters of L6 plus bolts plus sleeve) that you can buy from Dan at Duckworth or LRParts, see below link :

http://www.lrparts.net/full-automatic-tran...d-oil.html

I would recommend going that way and then for your first flush use the internet batch of L6.

If I may ask, why are doing two oil changes ?? If it is due to a failed cooler, then it takes more than 2 flushes. I know from experience !!! I think it took me 4 or 5 (using much cheaper Toyota ATF that was the best I could find in Nigeria). After that I flushed with L6 and then changed the filter and put another batch of L6 in it. MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
Have the Faultmate MSV2 Extreme to be tinkering with the settings etc. !!

ive never seen the ZF 6 for less than the £20 mark, dan on here sells it, some ebay sellers with big feedback and a couple of specialist sites like Bristol transmissions or harris

Ive been doing a lot of research and reading up on the properties of this oil and they are some equivlents out there.

there is the Meyle atf6 and also Pentosin do one , the shell 1375.4 make for ZF , its the same oil

Isle landrover sell a rock oil variant along with their filter kit but ive not looked into that oil yet

Thanks, ebajema.

I would like to change the fluid twice only because I'm not happy with the fluid that is in the box at the moment which I have detailed on my previous thread here. http://www.fullfatrr.com/forum/topic30457.html

I hope the filter pan will be ok because it the car has only covered around 80 miles since the last fluid change - it has only cover around 700 miles since the fluid change before that in which a new filter was also fitted! Embarassed

Thanks Viper, Mikey and 472p.

It's nice to see the fluid available for around £15 a litre from what look to be genuine suppliers and if I can use Dan, I will do. I need to get the fluid as soon as possible though. Thumbs Up

£15 a litre is still rather expensive, unless it is genuine LR oil

I read on here that if you leave the oil draining from your gearbox for a long period of time, say a week, you can get a lot more out V the 7 litres that pan and filter change would get out, don't know if its true or not

I would say that's not true. The torque converter will.never drain, nor will the valve block, cooler/pipework etc.

If you can get 7 litres out in one go, you are doing well. I'm sure mine took 5.5 after replacing the sump

Speed is of the esscence so I'm off to Liverpool to collect 14 litres on Monday morning.
Shame I couldn't use Duckworth's, but the travel there and back to collect would make it very expensive. The box will be sorted on Monday afternoon, hence my trip to Liverpool to collect and then back to Stockport for the swap-out.

Will the filter be okay to re-use after only covering a hundred miles or so, or can the sealing be problematic if used again?

As always, thanks for the replies, everyone. Thumbs Up

A friend of mine managed to get another 1.5 litres out of a Mercedes E-Class 211 by leaving the car on his garage lift for four days. It was purely by accident. Late at night, he replaced the sump cover and when he returned to finish the job, there was more fluid that had collected overnight, so he left it to drip until there was no more fluid collecting in the pan.

You don't have to take the filter of, just drain via the plug. Taking the filter of would not be an issue I think as it is an "O"- ring type cord if I remember correctly.

Good luck. MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
