Dead Draper Oil Extractor - can it be revived?

Got a used Draper Draper 77057 oil extractor pump off ebay...

This guy: https://www.machinemart.co.uk/p/draper-man...extractor/

Pumped for 15 mins and not a sausage. Baltic Blue Mike told me it only needs a few pumps and it's away. So this one's definitely had it. (I know you can hook up a compress or but I don't have one)

Whilst waiting for the seller to refund me, I'm interested to know if I can replace the seals.

Rang Draper but no seals or part are available, only a set of replacement add-on tubes

These things work like one of those garden sprayers I think.

 Cheers, Greg

Maybe it uses commonly available O rings for seals?

Worth a look if you can.

Like Mike says, it only needs a couple of pumps to start sucking the oil out.

Is it possible to rig up a bit of plumbing to the air compressor connection and connect a tyre (footpump) schrader valve , to replace the built in pump ?.

Not a bad idea. Connect a 12V air compressor Thumbs Up Gone to a good home: 2011 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE Buckingham Blue with Ivory and clear glass = "Rory"

It’s raining, so to satisfy my curiosity, I threw caution to the wind and ordered 2 for £3.19.
My thinking being, if it works I will stick the spare one in an envelope and send it to Greg, but only then realised they are coming from China with an expected delivery date at the end of September Embarassed , but the thought was there.

Cheers for all the replies guys.

I'm reluctant to rig up an air compressor because for that I'd be better off buying a 12v oil extractor pump - making the Draper an over-complicated 10 litre bucket.

Thank you Mike for thinking of me. I always click on UK-only for any search.

I do like fixing things so once/if the seller leaves it with me I'll take it apart and start to look at the o-rings etc. I just don't know how these kind of pumps work. I guess it's an air pump to create the vacuum and somehow it doesn't pump oil, just the air. Will get my head around it....
. Cheers, Greg

Ok so I opened it up.

Having thought it over I realised the principle difference is that garden sprayers fill with pressure, and this one is the opposite, the air is removed.

But the above youtube link is where I started, the main plunger.. The rubber seems ok.

It doesn't 'look' the best visually but it's a lot wider than the cylinder. I actually turned it over to increase the outward pressure just in case. (maybe I'm wrong)

I'm not sure how the plunger creates suction exactly. I guess it's all about the valve which should eject the air - I think it's this one

This valve makes a high whoosh sound as I pump. When I squeeze the black thin top-to-bottom hose under the valve , the whoosh stops. Either have no effect on suction (in my case no suction.).

Still trying to figure it all out.... Cheers, Greg

ok just discovered there is a one-way 'air out' valve at the bottom of the cylinder:

Well you can't really see it but this looks down inside the cylinder. There is a lot of oil in there, I have a theory that oil should not enter this area and may have degraded the seals.

Still going....

. Cheers, Greg

Morning Greg,
I love your never say die spirit....
You will get it working come what may.. Bow down
Are you getting your money back, or not?

I assume you have tried testing it by actually putting the end of the suction tube in a bucket of water or similar ?

How do you get the pump apart,? Does the handle come off ?

Cheers Mike.

The whole top comes off with eight screws.

I'm not sure if I can sort it actually, I can't identify the problem so far...

It's funny you said previously about fixing your bike pump with leather, this is the plunger seal. Looks like leather to me....

 Cheers, Greg
