Month 4 of ownership - my first proper fault/problem!

Hi All,

As the title suggests, I've had my RR since January and it's run beautifully so it was probably overdue an issue - this one's come with a bang Rolling Eyes

I started her up yesterday and was greeting with the following messages on the display:

> CHECK BRAKE FLUID <
> HDC INACTIVE <
> AIR SUSP. INACTIVE <

I also noticed some fluid leaking onto the street below the car, so I checked under the bonnet and the Brake Fluid Gauge was reading at MIN. It was since fallen to below MIN over the last day. It therefore looks like I've got a brake fluid leak somewhere below the area between the front/rear doors on the N/S.

The air suspension seems to have deflated and locked up too and it wasn't driving well. Could these all be related to the brake fluid problem or have I been smacked with three separate issues at once? Shocked Shocked Shocked

Any guidance appreciated. I will book it into my local indy LR specialist as soon as they re-open after the holiday weekend, although they usually have a two week waiting list Sad

Thanks,

Chris 2002 Range Rover Td6 Vogue

1. The air suspension will shut down to a failsafe position if the min brake fluid alarm is raised. Sort out the leak and all should be well with the air. The HDC alarm is probably just part of the chain of bongs you get with this also.

2. The brake pipes to the rear drop down behind the plastic inner wing to two unions just by the front mudguard, then run as uninterupted pipes all the way to the back. The RR pipe runs all the way to the flexible joint in the RR wheelarch, the RL pipe does the same. Given the age of the car, if the pipes have not been changed it is probably severely corroded pipes that have sprung a leak.

As the HDC uses the ABS it will also be deactivated until the leak is fixed.

The brake lines are probably corroded. Happened to me in February. One way to test this is to push the brake pedal and if it keeps on sinking, the there is likely a problem with the lines. I was told that this is a common fault in regions where they use salt on the roads. There is a "trap" underneath the car where the brake lines can mature to the point of failing completely. It is not an expensive job, but I would not recommend driving the car to the garage.
