Cubby box 12v socket

The 12v socket in my cubby box only works with the ignition on. I was under the impression that it was always supposed to be live. If that is correct what fuse should I check or replace to make it 'live' again?
Thank you. Travelling around in circles again.

you cant make it permanent unless you re-wire it....the boot one is permanent live and you could run a feed to the front.. ... - .- -.

The 12v sockets run through relays, that's why they normally only become live when the ignition is on.
It is possible to make them permanently live, by removing the relay and using a bridge across the terminals. It's been done in my 2005 FF the relays have been removed and bridging contacts put across the terminals to make all my 12v sockets permanently live, but don't know if it is a standard thing done, or just a 'fix up' by one of the previous owners.

Thanks for the swift replies guys. I'll have a think about running a feed from the boot socket to the cubby box one. Travelling around in circles again.

It's a lot easier to do what Discotigger suggests than running a new cable.
You simply need to remove the relay serving the accessory socket on the rear fuseboard, fit 100mm of cable with a male spade connector on each end and push the spade connectors into the respective holes in place of the relay.

Exactly nicedayforit Thumbs Up
The fuseboard in the rear right hand boot cubby has the relays for the accessory sockets. The relay that controls my accessory sockets has been removed and a metal bridge has been inserted that ensures my 12v sockets are permanently live.

Simple fix. Thumbs Up

^ The wiring diagrams show two options, ignition controlled and not.
Irrespective of the model / year of the car some have one option some the other.
It doesn't seem to be consistent one way or the other, I get the impression it depends on who's fitting them on any particular day. Whistle

The easy way to find out is to look at the relay panel in the rear right hand cubby box. If there is a relay missing from the board and a metal bridge strap in its place, then the 12v accessory sockets will be permanently live.

I think the 100mm of cable as suggested by nicedayforit is the way to go. Ta Travelling around in circles again.

Just a point about the cable, as the circuit is fused at 20A the cable also needs to be rated at 20A. Thumbs Up
When you remove the relay you will see the terminals on it numbered on the pin side.
You need to look for the pins 30 and 87 and put the cable spade connectors in the corresponding holes in the fuseboard.
