Dash Cam (rear view)

I am looking at fitting a dash cam and looking for current recommendations an/or any to avoid. Looking on Amazon/Ebay etc... I have seen several with a rear camera which I guess could be handing in case of being rear ended/road rage etc... s well as to supplement the standard reversing camera which is pretty poor and doesn't show the rear bumper which is a pain when parking in close confines.

Questions:

1. Current recommendations for a decent camera (ideally looking to keep with in £50 plus the SD card) and not too big. Also availability of second lead and mount if needed would be an advantage so I could use in my old BMW when going to shows etc... I would prefer to buy from a UK seller
2. Is it worth getting the rear view camera, are these wireless as don't fancy running wires from the rear of the car to the main unit.
3. Is the easiest way to wire the main unit using a piggy back fuse on fuse #7 to a 12v socket
4. If the rear needs power only is there an easy pick up (i would prefer not to have to make holes in the car as currently not leaking.

I have searched and there seems to be a number of different models available based on budget/need/quality etc... so really just looking for current info and thoughts.

I got a camera with two lenses so it sees what happens in front with the forward looking lens, what happens inside and behind with the rear looking camera. If that is something for you, I will look up details (bought it on ebay). MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
Have the Faultmate MSV2 Extreme to be tinkering with the settings etc. !!

Stan, is the socket in the boot not a permanent live, if so do you have to plug in and unplug every time? There is a difference between knowing your sh!t and knowing you're sh!t

This sound like the type I have seen. My main concern with this type would be having to run wires from front to back or have I misunderstood and you have two cameras on the one unit so you see everything behind the driver as opposed to a separate camera at the rear of the vehicle? There is a difference between knowing your sh!t and knowing you're sh!t

Had one of these in my rangy http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/In-Car-Vehicle-D...2c8593279d

Easy fit and the rear can is powers off the lead from the front can unit . simple to fit just ran the lead under the head lining from the back via the dome lights powers on and off with the car powers from a wire in the front dome light

Great picture from both cams and saves them as separate files on the SD card .they are both small enough to fit out of the way

Why ?

Mine are stuck to the glass - front & rear - I run BlackVue's and they seem fine stuck to the glass.

My rear one is powered from the rear fuse box - and the front one from the glove box fuses - both on a piggy back fuse from a switched live connections Thumbs Up

my front one is stuck with 3m to the windscreen and no problems..
my rear one is on a suction mount so i do have to be careful when closing the tailgate making sure i dont slam it shut, maybe thats the reason welshdragon doesn't recommend it.. ... - .- -.

Ah - I understand now - mine's securely stuck, but I guess slamming the boot doesn't do it much good

I have taken two pics of the camera unit, it is a single unit with one lens at the front and the second lens at the back next to the screen. The rear lens is fixed in the housing but the front lens can be moved up and down so you can angle it however you like for both lenses to work properly. MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
