ELO, interesting group, 7 / 8 very talented chaps, who sound a lot bigger in the studio, than on tour. The main reason for this is they all played more that one instrument, and overlayed multiple tracks to make them selves sound bigger Thumbs Up Example how do you make 2 cellos and a violin sound like a whole string section of an orchestra, simple record it 10 times, adding each recording to the first, net result 20 cellos and 10 violins all playing together at the same time Bow down instant orchestra in the studio, big headache on tour!
There have been many artists who have used this method, and most of them suffer when it comes to live performances Wink Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!

Chaps, if we/they don't embrace modern tech, like synths, then some proper classic no1's would not exist. It's not a question or purity, it's all about the end result. -music. We could go back to when there was no electricity, and all music was performed live. Massive production desks can tailor the inputs, like ELO edit as mentioned earlier, without these, it's nothing. Bands don't all have to be able to perform live. I remember when bands like pet shop boys, and erasure, OMD depehe mode were slated by rock bands, regarding them as cheating. Now we have Tiesto, and David guetta, blowing people's minds, previously edited on a desktop pc, clicking away, just waving thieir arms about to a stadium. And we love it! We feel it, we are immersed.
It's a bit like saying we should carry a starting handle, and blanket in our range rovers. To appreciate the fundamentals of raw motoring.
Perhaps the ultimate LP record. Dark side of the moon. -plenty of post production trickery there. It was ground-breaking. And timeless even today.
It's an often discussed subject, modern music vs our 'teen decade'.
Keep it coming.

And wot's wrong with starting handles? We wouldn't be bu Censored r'd up by flat batteries for a kick off Twisted Evil And there's nothing wrong with a good blanket, very handy on a winters night when the electrics have f u b a r'd them selves and your waiting for the man in the little yellow van. Can also be very handy for an impromptu picnic on the embankment when the cars all hot and bothered. Laughing Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!

If you had a spacesuit on, and it's full of TETsy flies, and moSquitOEs, and music playing loudly, Indeed a TIESTO song is in the making. Just take a galloping bass line, with a sampled female haunting chorus mixed in, Played over a 'lovers run away adventure' music video, it would indeed be impossible to NOT be dancing around. The Tiesto superstar DJ concerts are huge, worldwide events.

Good music pounding through you, at high decibels, is a euphoric experience.

See him,

Or these guys,
Don't think, just let it flowwwwwww.

All Perhaps at the loud end of the music experience.

There are no boring areas of music anymore. Which is good!

It's one thing using recorded backing music to accompany singers and small bands on tour, it's another thing to use synthesisers for their intended purpose as long as a person is playing it.

However, pre-programmed synths replacing a drummer, or bassist is not music at all. It requires no talent and has exactly the same amount of feeling and soul as the computer running it, i.e. none.

Modern groups (if you can call them that) with their pre-packaged computer generated backing sounds are no more than karaoke or a CD player. Real bands use real people to play instruments, be they physical or synthesised.

So, nothing wrong with synths, as long as they're not played by computers. Thumbs Up

Oi, DJ tetsy fly is only playing a record player, any muppet can do that. All he is doing is mixing parts that real musicians have previously recorded. Yes what he does is very clever, but he ain't no musician, and without them he'd have nothing to mix Twisted Evil
There are thousands of real musicians out there, Eric Clapton, Carlos Santana, Jeff Beck, Slash, Nuno Bettencourt, Chuck Berry, Seasic Steve, Bo Diddly, BB King, John Lee Hooker, and list goes on forever..... Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!

This is typical of the music today, another lazy cover version of a 70's classic.
