You have to remember that X factor shows are a show (a karaoke show) it's not really music its people trying. There will always be cheap pop hits because it's an industry making money. it's hard for real bands to emerge without a force behind them. I kind of prefer real pub music, nice and loud! I tend to dislike the huge stadium concerts as they are an industry too.
Some days I listen to no.1 type hits, the type of music most popular on cd's these days, and others I will dig deep and give anything a try, others I will be lost in 'classic vocal euphoric trance', when I can turn it up! Music nowadays is so broad to different tastes. The quality of sound in homes now is far from days of old, wireless headphones make it so easy too.
Keep it comin I say!

Got some Elbow on at the moment.

There are a lot of problems with todays' music, the main problems are that musicians have been replaced with talentless computers. They don't employ a full string section as part of the band, they get a synth and plug it in to a computer and produce hundreds of parts that are all played together, with a single push of a button. As such there is no feeling or artistic interpretation in the piece. This has been going on for years, infact decades, since the 70's when synths first made an appearance.
.

So I'm confused Miggit... Is this an issue with "Today's music?" Or been going on for "decades"?

i am, not a fan of the Beatles and McCartney (not sure of spelling) however a Radio 4 issue today aired a song before and after John Bohnam, what a difference after, it actually sounded bloody good, so I will have to revisit my view on the Bohnam chap wherever he is from Thumbs Up

John Bonham is my absolute favorite ever drummer. My drum kit is almost the same sizes as his drums - 26 inch bass drum - I'm that big a fan. He was great in Led Zeppelin and no wonder they split after he died.

He was crap in the Beatles though. Played like Ringo Starr.

Sacrilege!

Not sure if I have done the quote thing correctly. Bonham is a big friend of McCartney. He played drums on an unreleased McCartney song and the difference was amazing. A much better song with him on the drums Thumbs Up

Craig it's been getting worse for decades, if your making a record, you might employ a real orchestra to back you up, but if you were to take to the road then you'd either be faced with a logistical nightmare or a synth.... Tricky one that, one bloke, crap sound, big saving or true to original sound bus loads of musicians and profit eating expenses. So over the years the music industry has slowly replaced all the talent with synths, and then they started to do this in the recording studios too, just so that it sounds more original when preformed on stage. And has nothing to do with the massive savings made employing only one keyboard player Twisted Evil
Karaoke is a very good description of the pop music available today. it all started in the 70's but it was mid 80's when you start to notice the lack of feeling to the string sections on some records, and then they started with the Brass sections and ended up trying to emulate just about every instrument known to man. I haven't got a problem with synths, you still have to know your way around a piano to have any real success with them, only they are now doing away with those too and just using computers... Progress?? Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!

Maybe that is why bands/singers doing a performance with a big orchestra (my favourite is of course S&M) is usually a big hit. Nothing like a real live orchestra together with a great band/singer. MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
