I just might

Hi All,

I've been thinking for a while that I'd like to change my FF for a newer version. I fancy the idea of the TDV8 (not sure why though but I do)

I'd like the touch screen etc and the more refined ride

thinking of going to look at this tomorrow.

Thoughts, comments - Is it too much for the year/mileage... Am I rushing into it and could get a lower mileage for the same money.

Also - on the touch screen, is it just as easy to get iPhone connectivity, hybrid TV etc..?

Thanks all. Ash

Looks like a really nice example at first glance. Very nice indeed.

There is some wear on the drivers door card / armrest. Nothing that can't be sorted.

Looks very tidy.

Update - It was a nice car to be honest. A couple of things needed sorting and he offered me £9K of mine. I may see what he'll do for cash but I did hear of another with 84k on the clock. full history (as the other one) but I know the second one wants to get rid so may have more room to move on it.

Question though - Do the TDV8's suffer gearbox issues like the TD6's.. Touch Screen - Are they upgradable a bit - I gather the Intravee is no good for it but is there anything else I can use for iPod without spending mega bucks..?

Anything else I should be aware of..?

I'm going to try and kick the garage into £14K for the second one (I know he will take £16 - it's currently on £16,995) but worth a punt..

Should I be looking at an extended warranty from them - they give AA Warranty Dealer Care Extended Guarantee - but are these not worth the paper they are written on?

Oh - and the TV - are they digital on an 07 plate or not necessarily (and require an upgrade) Ash

TDV8 has the ZF gearbox which doesn't exhibit the same issues of the GM box in the TD6. Intercooler pipes at top front on engine can split making the TDV8 run rough and smoke under acceleration (easy to fix though). You can get a able to connect your Ipod to the entertainment system or if it has RSE there will be an aux input in the back on the centre console. MY07 has the digital TV 56 TDV8 Vogue SE

Thanks Andy - Neither had RSE but both had an aux in socket in the rear centre cubby (between the front seats)

I assume this is only aux in and no controls come up on the dash (have to control via iPhone). It would be good to have charge and control via the touch screen. I assume later Sat Nav discs are available to upgrade as well. Ash

Later satnav discs are available, not sure how the aux works with an Iphone or Ipod as I don't have either. would doubt you get controls on the touchscreen. Pretty sure there is a dedicated connector cable you can get that plugs into the back of the touchscreen 56 TDV8 Vogue SE

Aux in is just as it says, there's in control of tracks etc, just volume etc it has no intelligence to sense what's plugged into it. Got - 2017 SDV8 Autobiography in Loire Blue

I run an iPod using the AUX. Sound quality is great, but there is NO control or charging with that. I think that MY07+ can get an adaptor for full functionality. However, it's pricey and takes time to install.

Latest sat nav disc for this model are 2012. Use the website search for THAT discussion. They are great cars and there are other things that more than make up for the sat nav updates.

Update...

So I went back to see the blue RR (07 plate TDV8) for another look. Took it for a test drive and it had no power at the low end. I suspect it has a split turbo hose or sticking actuator on the Primary turbo. This is going to be fixed before I pass any money over BUT... I bid him hard on it based on the fact that I knew he wanted to get rid of it.

I was very cheeky and offered sub £14k and he accepted it.!

I haven't paid a deposit yet until the engine is sorted but have I done the right thing,..? 07 TDV8 with 80 on the clock for less than £14K..? My thoughts are that I've built in enough margin to cover if something goes wrong.

Tell me I should go ahead with it...?

The sellers a brave man accepted such a low bid, knowing he needs to fix the low end power issue.
Either he knows what the problem is, or he's blissfully unaware do how expensive these things can turn out to be, but assuming it gets fixed properly, it's a good price Thumbs Up Got - 2017 SDV8 Autobiography in Loire Blue

Agreed - It "should" be a simple fix but it's up to him to sort it first. Are there any gotcha's I should be wary of..? i.e. could he temporarily fix it so it works as I drive away but 10 miles down the road it goes bang..?

Do you think I have built in enough margin to recover if it is an issue?

Difficult I guess without knowing the extent of the problem. The dash did say engine system error or some such that went away as I drove away....? Ash

I've had that, as have a few others and it turned out to be a split hose. It could also be a sticky turbo actuator, which I don't think is an expensive fix but if it's a turbo, your fund will need to have a few grand in it!

If you had turned the ignition off and back on you would have "cleared" the error and the car would have gone back to full power. If you had that error and drove away, that's why it was way down in power as the car goes into limp home mode. The test would be to see how quickly, if at all, the error came back as you were driving. Got - 2017 SDV8 Autobiography in Loire Blue

As was pointed out on mine before they were changed - it's wearing the wrong side vents.
They're off an SC. Still look good - just incorrect.

Mark... The rear lights and the front grille are all off an SC too sir Rolling Eyes

The side vents on yours were of a completely different age range of FF sir

The vents above are for the correct era, all be it off a "higher spec'd" car so an "upgrade"
