Key Start Up Issue

Hi All,

Been having a few issues lately with the old girl. I was away for some time and the battery died so I am not sure if this is related to various ECU's needing to be reset.

Anyhow I have charged up the battery and this is the issue I have. Sometimes when I get in to the car, I place the key in to the ignition and turn and everything lights up but when I go to start the car it goes dead. When I tried to start again the ignition is locked out. I get out of the car and lock the car with the key from the outside, open up and get back in and everything is ok. The car starts without any problem.

On the weekend this happened again but this time the closing and opening of the car did nothing. The ignition was also locked out so I could not even turn the key execpt to remove it. It was completely dead. I left the drivers door open for about 5 mintues then tried again and it started up without any problems. I did receive the inactive air suspension message but I put it in reverse and drove about 5m and this cleared. No more error messages are coming up.

Has anyone else had this sort of problem?

Cheers,
Daryl

If the battery that died is still in the car, that would my first point to check. Is it giving enough voltage to have everything work well. The other thing is, have you done the lock to lock with the steering wheel ??

Once a batttery died, it usually doesn't recover and keeps dying on you. It won't hold charge for very long etc. Time to replace it then.

Do you have a code reader/clearer like the IID tool ?? MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
Have the Faultmate MSV2 Extreme to be tinkering with the settings etc. !!

Hit the nail on the head Smile

I do have a diagnostics tool and it was pointing to a random earth fault - but I think I found the issue. Also it was definately the battery, replaced and all good now. Cleared the faults and nothing new has come up *fingers crossed*

Thank you for the response!!!

Sounds as if the battery terminals might be corroded or you've a loose connection, might be worth a check before you go to the bank to get a mortgage extension to buy a new battery! Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!
