There is some nasty "nut grabber" type socket that you can buy at tool shops and maybe Halfords. If you do a little search on the forum you will find it. The posts are about lock wheel nuts if I remember correctly.

Should it not be down to the tyre dealer to rectify the problem, at their cost! |

Thanks for the replies. Spoke to Duckworth who suggested a 22mm bi-hex socket - whack it on and hope! I will try that first......somewhere on here I did read that the Laser Emergency sockets do not work on these models? but thanks anyway. TDV8 3.6 2010 Santorini Black / Jet Interior

Is it the silver cap that's rotating on top of nut? If so use a grips to wiggle off the cap then remove with a 22 mm socket . Present :2008 TDV8 HSE

I discovered that something similar had happened to 8 of my wheel nuts. In my case an over-size socket did the job. I tend to agree that the offending tyre shop should sort this. Dan is good if you want a replacement nut. |

I have ordered a double hex 22m socket and will apply it to the offending nut with more than a little force! Googsy - what has happened is the silver cap has been turned(ie no flats left) through over-zealous torque by the tyre guys. If the silver cap comes off is there a 22mm nut beneath? Can I just cut the cap off?

If its a normal wheel nut (not a LOCKER!!!) then YES under the cap is a 22mm nut so just split & remove the cover and all will be well |

If the dipsticks at the tyre dealers did not realise that the silver caps were just caps and not wheel nuts then I would take the car back to them and get them to fix it, then get the prat who did it sacked! |

If it only the silver cap turning panic over I only replaced 4 such blighters this very day due to them swelling. I use a grips with a clamp on the silver cap to manipulate and pull off it's quite easy. Yes under the cap is a 22 mm I always carry spare nuts for this very reason. In any case you will be able to use the damaged one until you get a replacement or two. Best buy 10 or so then check and replace as necessary. Site sponsors do them for about 4 quid each go for oem replacements not copies. Present :2008 TDV8 HSE

Fair enough about the wheel nut caps, but if the tyre dealers (presumably so called 'specialists'), my point is that if they do not realise that they are bolloxing up wheel nut covers what the f**k are they doing employed as tyre fitters |
