United Kingdom 2003 Range Rover Vogue 4.4 V8 Java Black
Eml

Good morning all, ive had a light come up on the dash, looks as though its camshaft issue of some sort. I pulled the sensors out yesterday and one looks cracked and messed up, see pics. Im assuming this would explain my low idle revs and stalling issues!

I would like to ask if anyone knows where I can get some new ones as i spent most of last night looking in the usual places to no avail, apart from some used examples on ebay.

Also is there any recommendations of a cheap fault code reader that is able to switch the light off after repair? I dont want/need to change perameters etc so just something capable of resetting would be sufficient, unless its not that simple?

Please accept my apologies for all the questions but ive taken the car to several garages and its now a case of if u want something doing properly do it yourself. Im capable of doing it but just need some guidance from you guys that are in the know!

Thanks again

Can't help with the sensor problem. Suggest you contact Dan at Duckworths LR on the forum for this specific part. You can identify part number by using the online microcat at lrparts.ru.

But if you have an android smartphone you can buy an ELM327 bluetooth OBDII adapter of ebay for @ £5 then download the Torque App (limited functionality is free but the pro version well worth the additional £5 too)

Should be able to clear standard OBD faults with this, works on my other cars. .

Just to put my mind at rest, the sensors shouldn't look like that should they?

they are in the oil splash area, ie next to the timing chain path. and may have baked 'grot' on them. they have magnetic properties, they sense a gap in a rotating metal wheel on front of camshaft(s) and relay it electrically, to the brain. if it gets a break of signal it would lose synch, and the brain would register a trouble code. car could stall. this can be read and point you (hopefully) to the offending sensor. they could test good when cold and go bad for just a few milliseconds, and then good again. so don't think it will 'look bad' to the eye. though it could, and it could also be bad when cold and good when hot also. a diagnostic tool will tell you the code, and point you well. by taking it off and putting it back on, you might have also cleared the fault. -hopefully for it never to return. maybe just a bad connector plug..... take only one off at a time though.

I think actually I don't have the (mentioned earlier) cam sensors to hand, , I have a pair of knock sensors....
