zf box

anyone tell me where I can find a gear display sensor? and what it does, this part seems to be the cause of my problems. Its a zf box. cheers.

Do you mean the inhibitor switch (sometimes called the XY switch or the selector switch)?

This switch tells the transmission ECU which gear position has been selected by the driver and the signal is sent on to the dashboard display. The standard DTC for a fault with this component is P0705. Second-hand ones regularly appear on eBay for anything between £100 and £200, though it’s easy enough to test its function before you spend any money :

Note that the wiring or connectors on Jaguar and BMW (including the X5) switches - which also use the ZF 5HP24 - are different. Only a specific Range Rover switch, with the longer wires, will fit. The ZF part no. is 0501 319 191 and the Land Rover part no. UHB 500020.

To be honest Phil I don't know, I'm going on what the mechanic said, he said the part from Landrover was £470 and it controls most of what happens in the box, I will speak to him today and show him your post.

Spot on Phil thats the part thats gone, looked on e-bay a choice of 3 alot cheaper than Land Rover. thanks for your help.
