S5 020 Bosch Battery - is it duff?

This is the thing, having changed the alternator recently I'm still having issues.
I've had it tested at ECP, the testing machine only went up to 900cca. The battery is rated at 920cca. It read 830cca but required charging.
Took it home and charged it off the car. It came back up and after a couple of 50mile runs all was well. Left the car a couple of days and when starting, cranked good but still had the adaptive lighting warning lamp flashing at me. After a restart the lamp resets.
Now is the battery not charging correctly, holding its charge?
How do I check it at home. It's approaching 2years old but ECP say its fine despite not being able to check a battery of this cca.
Thoughts?
Ever so slightly having the humpies, I guess I have a serviceable alternator sat on the side board with about 10k left in it ;(

Could you fully charge it, leave it for a day, take it back for testing.. It should still be at the top of their scale.. Previously..

Yes but on the otherhand you have a good brand new alternator in the car, so on that basis i would say the battery is starting to show signs of strain. Personally i find if they have been flattened at all they seem to never be the same again. Car batteries are not designed to deep cycle, unlike leisure batteries which are designed to be run flat more often.

Does your charger have a function to recondition th battery? May help to run a recon program on it but it sounds like its not holding charge properly, which is exactly what mine has started doing, was fine until it got flattened at xmas, now is fine if run every day for a decent amount, but if left for a few days then it turns over much slower. Still works fine but just slower to turn. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

I have an optimate. I've not flattened the battery, it's never failed to start the car. Just dipping on performance which sets off the disco lights on start up. As you say it's fine if used daily but starts messing around if left for a few days. I'll charge it off the car and leave it as Contraband suggests before taking it back to ECP.

Order a replacement from ECP and have them deliver it to you. When they do, tell the driver its a warranty replacement not a payment required job, give the driver back the old one and they will ask you to show the driver the original receipt (i presume its a 3 or 5yr battery) then fill out a form and it will be placed on the warranty pile when the driver gets back to depot... Simples... Wink

As Craig says sounds like a great plan, the battery was taking the strain from your old worn out alternator and the damage is starting to show

Being a private customer, we don't have the dedicated ECP delivery vans. I'm not sure that the yodel man will take the old one back Sad

Now starts the drain testing.

After a few days to let the dust settle, i'm still having the disco on start up. By that i mean 'Suspension inactive, HDC inactice, adaptive warning light flashing, bong, bong etc"

After a minute or two the general messages report that the systems are now active, the adaptive h/lamp warning light remains flashing until switch off/on again some time later. I presume when the battery regains a good charge.

I conclude that something is pinching the voltage from the battery, i have searched in relation to the TDV8 discharging issues, and found nothing much that was conclusive. Solutions varied from software re-sets, selling the car, plugging in a conditioner to combat the drain.............................. let the games begin Big Cry

You might have to start pulling fuses overnight, to isolate selected systems, and see how it goes. Previously..

This will be my mission over the coming days, once the night shifts have ended. I hate auto-electrics. I have put CTC's number in the hot dial, just in case my sanity fails the distance.

I would check to see if there is any drain back down thro the alternator when the ignition is off.
Could well be a faulty alternator .. again.
