Got the car back from the stealer yesterday. They fitted a new FBH unit as the original unit was only blowing cold air. Tried it this morning (about 12°C this morning so it should have heated the cabin as I believe the heater switches on below 15°C) and the thing was still blowing cold air out after about 10/15 minutes. I'm really disappointed as they've had the car for quite a while and it is still not sorted. I'll try again, maybe it wasn't cold enough outside and the system ventilated only.

FBH kicks in under 6 deg C?

God Martin that was quick! The owner's manual says heat below 15°C but maybe it kicks in at a lower temperature.

Taken from the 2010 owner's manual on TOPIX:
- If the external temperature is 15°C (60°F) or lower, then the passenger compartment is heated using the auxiliary heating system.
- If the temperature is greater than 15°C (60°F), then the passenger compartment is ventilated by blowing in air from outside the vehicle.
My car is from July 2010 so technically MY2011, when looking at the 2011 owner's manual, the quote about the temperature has been deleted. As the dealer has put a new unit in I guess it will come with the new (altered) software.

Ah ... sorry I was rather stupidly assuming you meant as an aux heater (i.e. on automatically to help warm up the cabin - as in a TDV8). You've got an SC so it should in theory work along the lines you've quoted, however I think it's hit and miss as in the summer if I hit the remote on mine it heats the cabin even if it is (very rare I know) over 20 degrees C ..... your's seems to be switched the other way, as if it only had timed ventilation and no aux heater! (the BMW era 4.4' petrols have this option....) Land Rover Addict

Normally if you've got the option of "Timed Climate Control" which mine has, it shouldn't make any difference if it's petrol or diesel, it works in the same way (only those who have the option, not the standard item).
I've got the remote control, the timer function on the screen and so on. And the dealer just put in a brand new unit so for sure I have the apparently rare FBH option on a petrol car.

i had the FBH option my former 4.2l SC  All my spelling errorz are belong to me!

Do you remember below which temperature the heater set in instead of the ventilation?

This may be relevant if the have replaced the FBH.

Thanks saw that but it doesn't give more info that what is already explained in the owner's manual.
I'll give it another try tomorrow early.

honestly i never used it in 3.5 years of ownership i have put the remote control in the safe together with the spare key  All my spelling errorz are belong to me!

i'd wait for colder temperatures as the wiki says less than 5 degrees for the fbh to work.. ... - .- -.
