Should I get the gearbox oil flushed?

Suspension air bags suspect at higher mileage or just your luck?

Anything else i need to be made aware of? Range Rover SC 35th Anniversary 2006

How high a mileage?

I asked my Indy about flushing the gearbox and his response was, "if it ain't broke...........!"

I guess the suspension depends on the type of terrain it's been used on. Got - 2017 SDV8 Autobiography in Loire Blue
Had- 2008 TDV8 Vogue SE in Java black
Had - 2007 S/C in Stornoway Grey

Alan, id'e question your indie's response my friend... Once the damage has been done "there aint no fixing it" replace it with a very big bill! Or service/flush it and prolong its life! No brainer!!!

Would definitely agree with what Craig says.

The "if it aint broke" approach would mean you would never give your engine oil a change, as the oil is not broken, its just slowly degrading and giving less protection. So would definitely recommend an oil change for the transmission. After all Craig has done a great many and I am sure he gets to see exactly what the oil comes out like.

The flush bit is another thing all together, will leave the experts to comment on this one.

I don't think you're comparing like for like. The gearbox is "supposed" to be sealed for life, whereas the engine isn't......

It's the right thing to do.

Sorry forgot to mention, not sure about the flush though, as there are different degrees of flush.

Sealed for life... Just like the 5 speed was in the TD6

Perhaps not the best choice for comparison agreed. But my point was that just because its not broke doesn't mean it wont break. And just because LR states the gearbox is sealed for life doesn't mean an oil change will not benefit the gearbox as after 70k miles or so I am pretty sure the gearbox oil is not as effective at protection as it was when new.

Tdv8 gearbox is not sealed for life and im pretty sure land rover now recommend an oil and filter change at 100k or 10 years.

It really does depend on what it has been put through. If it has regularly towed then it would need doing earlier. IMHO. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

In the last month, I went for a test drive in our SC with a Master Technician from Stratstone Bury.

Amongst things the car had been in for was a leak from the gearbox sump/ need for a new gasket was the cause. On his advice, the garage removed the existing oil, replaced the filter, put new oil in, replaced the actual sump cover, new gasket and sealed the unit back up. He told me that this process would have been due on this car at 100,000 miles and is effectively a gearbox service. He said the process and having driven the car before and after allowed him to be satisfied that there were no gearbox problems and none within the unit (I.e no signs of glitter/metal shavings noted during the 'service'). He seemed pleased that he had done this and said it was a very early preventative process as the car is nowhere near 100k miles. He didn't mention a flush having been done though. I've read conflicting views re pros and cons of a flush but obviously I'm the type of owner who is guided by the professional and I'm happy that what was originally to be a new gasket, ended up having a fuller job done
