RetroFit Factory Phone

As per the title I want to retrofit the factory phone kit.

I believe the wiring is already there, but LR left out the ECU's & Modules needed to make everything work. Does anyone know if they are ALL left out. Or basically what I need to buy. I've already bought the new buttons for the steering wheel and the Telephone Control Unit (£30 eBay)

I think I need item 1 from here, minimum:

And do I need the voice recognition ECU item 10? Will the system work without it?

Mate, you're better off putting the BMW module in. See my post below- I've put a link to a site that explains it all 2010 MY Vogue SE TDV8 3.6 Stornoway Grey- fully loaded

BMW? It's all BMW gear anyway isnt it? Just with a LR badge on it.

As far as I understand it you cant have any telephone in the RR at all without the telephone control modue? If I'm wrong, great I can go down a cheaper road?

The one in your pic is not a BMW unit.

This is what you need to do:

http://www.roverupgrades.com/Rover_Bluetoo...tions.html

You need the 13th Generation BMW module. This has voice recognition built in and controls the SatNav too. It's not cheap though - expect to pay around £300 for it - & thats just the module! 2010 MY Vogue SE TDV8 3.6 Stornoway Grey- fully loaded

The one in the pic is the ULF module though, not the actual control unit. If you dont have the conrol unit then your steering wheel buttons don't connect to anything... as everything is routed through it.

The ECU I brought is from an X5 with the phone kit which is all exactly the same setup as for the RR.

From my understanding all of the instructions on that site refrence how to ad bluetooth functionality to your existing phone system. There is sketchy information on what to do if you do not already have a phone.

For example it suggests that by replacing the steering wheel button with the voice conrtol type, you gain voice recognition ability. If your car doesnt have the phone ditted already you wont have the voice rec' ecu.

I suspect that all US cars are shipped with all wiring and ECU's in place to make the phone a dealer fit option, rather than UK cars which were factory specified. That site says that there should be cabelling inside the cubby box lid, I took mine apart yesterday to see, and their isnt.... However, I did fix my handbrake switch whilst I had it all apart! Very Happy

I was hoping that someone had already done the work basically, and could provide a list of things to buy to get it all to work.

I've got wiring running up to the lid on my centre console- I can see it through the hinge.
Also got the wire for the microphone, and the steering wheel button.

Speak to Adam at L322.com - he's done a few. He'll tell you what to do. 2010 MY Vogue SE TDV8 3.6 Stornoway Grey- fully loaded

Hmmm, bizzare. Maybe next weekend I'll pull the cubby box apart to see if its just not been pulled through. I'd be very happy if it is there - If it isnt I will scrap the whole idea because the loom obviously isnt there.

This is the BMW unit

It's totally different to the LR unit. One thing you have to do when using the BMW unit is to re-pin the plug. Although the plug is the same, the wiring config is different. 2010 MY Vogue SE TDV8 3.6 Stornoway Grey- fully loaded

But that is just the Bluetooth ULF module? That would then connect to the phone module which in turn would connect to everything else as per the first pic I posted?

No. It's not an addition to the existing set up. It's an "instead of".

Have a look at Adams page:

http://www.l322.com/PHONE_KITS.html

I was on the phone to Adam for a good half hour discussing this very subject the other night. Basically, I've got everything there, bar the module and the LR unit in the diagram. All I need to do is fit the module in the boot, then the microphone and bluetooth antenna on top of the DVD unit. The phone then needs to be paired using the centre console unit that you also need to fit. 2010 MY Vogue SE TDV8 3.6 Stornoway Grey- fully loaded

RIGHT! That makes a lot more sense now lol!

So that replaces the central unit.... I will still need a bluetooth antenna though, and appropriate gubbins for the cubby box?

I wish I had enough money to just throw some cash at someone and say sort it out!

Yes. Bluetooth antenna is about £15 on eBay. Mic is £14 from BMW. I've compiled a list of all the required parts and part numbers, which I'll PM to you. 2010 MY Vogue SE TDV8 3.6 Stornoway Grey- fully loaded

As the original PTI didn't allow for modern phones in the cradles and the bluetooth wasn't standard (I think?) would you not be better off installing a Parrot kit? My mate has one in his M3 (even tho the M3 has BT) and says its brilliant, plus it transfers the phonebook too, the LR one does NOT! Evil or Very Mad Discovery 4 HSE
