I have to agree, I put an e-bay Parrot into my other car and it lets me access phone book etc. All for the princly sum of £50 and an hours work! It's only drawback, like any B/T set-up is no external antenna for the phone, though many newer phones have no facility to connect one

I already have the Nokia Bluetooth kit, it has a small button with jog wheel, about the size of a 10p but this is too intrusive and not as god intended my dash to be! The thought of installing a parrot to my dash makes me want to vomit quite frankly with its massive lurid backlit display, I could just cut my eyes out I suppose instead…. Bit OTT I know, but you get the picture!

Integrated & hidden is where it's at! The parrot doesn’t allow you to use the steering wheel controls, or read texts on the main display, or link your phone address book into the nav....

Since when did the RR system allow you to read texts (only if crappy old phone in a cradle) or link address book to the nav? Discovery 4 HSE

"Remote sim mode" on the phone enables the address book sharing... As far as Texts are concerned I dont know how it works, I presume magic. But it's a feature it discusses in the manual none the less.

Obviously you can buy different clip-ins for different phones or if you have a phone without a pop port connection you have to go bluetooth

I might have misunderstood...I thought you meant it took details from your phone's address book i.e. Name and address and used them to plot a route.

What you mean is just reading texts on screen. I've done that, and used the touchscreen keyboard to type out a text, shame it only works when you have a phone in a cradle. Discovery 4 HSE

I'm sure I read that it will integrate with Vcard equiv' on the phone. It should also work via bluetooth. I'm talking about the Pre Touch screen setup if that makes a diff?

Of course I might be making it all up!

Txt / phone book does not work via bluetooth, yet. There is a software upgrade, £100, to allow you do this, but it is not guaranteed to work. Acording to my dealer.

Is that just that it isn't tested for many phones, or is it a bit hit and miss? Would be interesting to know which phones the upgrade will work with.

Surely wouldn't be beyond sense for a dealer to upgrade one of their demonstrators and let customers pair with it to see if their phone worked or not.

£100 isn't cheap, but by the time you've bought the right cradle etc for the phone (and in my case a phone that fits it), you're probably in that terriatory anyway, and still have the down sides of the phone in a cradle (I'm assuming that the options are a)use the cradled phone as a dedicated "car phone", b)remember to forward your regular mobile to the cradled phone while you're driving c)use the mobile and fit it in the cradle every time you get in the car).

Personally I like just getting in the car with the phone in my pocket and not needing to do anything (I can live without the phonebook and texting from the screen seems daft when it's less effort to just take phone out and use that!

Dan, could you not rewire the Nokia bluetooth button to you wheel buttons (I'm sure it won't be that simple!)

Totaly agreee with stealers getting a demo, bit I am led to believe that it is hit and miss if it works on eac upgrade.

As the original PTI didn't allow for modern phones in the cradles and the bluetooth wasn't standard (I think?) would you not be better off installing a Parrot kit? a software upgrade see to the phonebook transfer, had it done the other week, cost 1 hours labour from the main stealer. I use a HTC Touch HD
