Canada 2008 Range Rover HSE 4.4 V8 Java Black

^ Cool. I'll go for the second one on looks alone. The first one looks like it was made from top secret plans for which the last page was replace with plans for an egg wisk.

No problem as long as you concentrated hard and used the rudder! Another taildragger I flew was a Jodel DR1051. That was mainly from a private farm strip.

There was a lot of satisfaction in flying/landing one. The guy who checked me out on taildraggers was a BCal pilot who used to check in with the tower at Shoreham each time he passed over the airfield outbound from Gatwick.

Talking about Gatwick, in those days, if you said it was a training flight there were no landing fees. We had to go in there if going over to France (Le Touquet for lunch Wink ) as there was, at that time, no customs at Shoreham. Can't imagine a Cessna 172 being too welcome there now on a "training flight". Very Happy

Man who ran the flight school where I trained once had a small (172 sized) plane and had CYVR (Vancouver International) as his home field. Shocked He was trying to get home one afternoon when he got put in an endless holding pattern by ATC to be "taught a lesson " for trying to bring a silly little plane into their big, important airport. On landing, he complained and it was ATC that learned you can't keep planes out of their home field. Also got an official letter of apology. However, we had ultralights and we were told to stay the heck away from YVR unless we had a VERY good reason (eg plane currently in fire). They ARE pretty busy. That's fair enough. I wouldn't want to hit wake turbulence from a Cessna in an ultralight, let alone a Boeing or Airbus.

The bell entrant just looks like an osprey with a facelift...

To be honest I thought the biggest problem the rotors faced was breaking he sound barrier at speed.

Obviously a single rotor compounded this by having he sound barrier broken on one side of the craft and not the other during higher speed forward motion. The twin rotor alleviates this issue although I can see there being a 'lag' effect for the direction changes compared to a single rotor craft. FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

That was interesting.

Do you think they'd sell me an F15 for a few quid?

No - but if you did make the enquiry they would probably conduct a full background check on you and/or full body cavity search for free. Howard

This was either a very hard landing or a very soft runway.

Thought this plane was cool

The smoothing plane was the last tool a cabinet maker would use on a flat surface to get it ready for finishing. The coffin shape in wood bodied planes was the most common shape for smoothers in the 18th and most of the 19th Centuries. This plane likely dates to the mid-1800's.

This example is made of solid boxwood which was prized for its weight, straight grain, dimensional stability and beautiful buttery color. The early boxwood was harvested from the trunks of old hedge rows and it was difficult to get pieces of any great diameter. This made boxwood expensive and it was used in sparing amounts, primarily for high wear areas in molding planes. Plane makers would save the larger pieces of boxwood for high end, special order tools such as this plane. It is as beautiful to look at as it is pleasurable to use.

The sole measures 7 3/8" long by 2 3/4" at its widest point. The blade width is 2 1/8". The plane is not marked by the maker but does carry the user mark, J. Moir. Both the iron and cap iron are marked "W.P. Ward." There is abundant life in the iron, it just needs a good sharpening.

The condition is near mint with little signs of use. This was likely one of Mr. Moir's prized tools and used only on very special projects.

My dad has one a bit like that but darker in one of his garage drawers. Even has an electric one now to save wear and tear on it as well as a sharpening stone for it Smile FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's
