MOT Failure

Big Cry

So Rear disc needs changing - the boy is coming tomorrow to help and also change pads

Parking brake efficiency below requirements - new disc and pads should sort that

fuel cap sealing washer deteriorated - new fuel cap ordered

n/s front upper (outer bush) suspension arm has excessive play - new bush ordered - just gotta find someone with hydraulic press to put it in

heres the bitch:

nearside and offside headlight cleaning device obviously defective Censored what a load of bo11ox it needs a wash to pass an mot - wtf do motorbikes do ffs Censored rant over

Anyway heres the deal, the o/s wiper works but no water, the n/s nothing
1) swapped 12v over on pumps proved pump works and water can flow on both sides - so electric feed issue
2) took wiper motor off n/s and gave it 12v direct feed and it works - 12v feed is at the cable to the motor - so electric feed issue
3) swapped pumps over from known working one and all working there.

Apart from fuse 28 is there any other fuse i can look for? does anyone know of known issue with headlight wipers??

After a week of replacing a water pump and 3 new tyres i'm losing a bit of faith in the car Sad

heres where i'm at:

Please don't think I'm being condescending here, but could it simply be blocked washer jets?

Otherwise, no idea. But I do hope you get it fixed soon. Thumbs Up Si. <This is my name.

All Xenon and Bi-Xenon lamps must be self-levelling and have a wash or wash/wipe system fitted.
If you have Halogen lamps they don't need to be fitted.
It maybe the case that; if fitted they must work for MOT.
A cheap fix or a 'for now to get me through the MOT' would be, if your lights are Halogen, to remove headlight wiper arms, the the motors and put a small grommet where the motor spindle sticks out?
This would get you through the MOT and allow you to take your time to resolve the issue.
Had it, loved it!

I have the same problem. Only one wiper works, other stuck at 30 degrees, no water from jets. Pulling fuse 28 made no difference and did not reset the wonky wiper. Next job is to clear ECUs with a battery disconnect and terminal touch. If that doesn't sort it, then I'll be doing the same as you, testing and tracing.

Fortunately (sorry to rub salt in wound) my MOT guy let this one pass on this occasion (probably only because I told him that I had HIDs last year and he hadn't spotted it!) .

your MOT tester sounds like an ass. Deteriorated filler cap washer?? Who checks that!

I reckon you take the wipers off and take it to a less nazi tester.....

edit. Later models dont even get wipers so it can't be a requirement to have them

edit 2 not sure fixing your rear disc will sort your park brake. i think its a transmission brake on this car..... sorry man! My Previous RR's!

Later models get a high pressure wash system.
It is definitely a requirement. Thumbs Up

Its not a transmission brake, but drums inside the discs. a good clean and proper adjustment should sort it if there is still material left on the shoes. Thumbs Up

The crazy thing is they are still manual adjusters!

Section 1.7 of MOT testers manual states that HID headlamps may have cleaning devices fitted, if fitted they must be operational. So if you remove the wipers, wiper motors and washer jets from the headlamps, they can't fail it.

I think the hand brake is drum in disc so you ma just need to adjust the shoes

Section 7.2 covers the fuel filler cap - Check fuel tank cap /filler neck sealing device for presence, positive fit and condition of sealing washer and flange. 56 TDV8 Vogue SE

I don't doubt it's on the test, but don't think I've ever seen a tester even open the flap! My Previous RR's!

I asked them about this as I was just going to remove them and they said the HID's MUST have the device and is a failure in its own right if they dont 2007 3.0L Diesel VW Touareg SE

Agree it is a "must work" as opposed to anything else for HIDs on the MOT.

Terminal touch:

Disconnect the battery, both terminals, following the procedure (wiki), then touch the pos and neg terminal cables together. This is supposed to help clear the ECUs, and may help to reset some things that won't reset any other way. No faults show up for this problem with IID tool (for me) .

Straight from section 1.7

Vehicles equipped with High Intensity Discharge (HID) or LED dipped beam headlamps may be fitted with headlamp washers and a suspension or headlamp self levelling system. Where such systems are fitted, they must work; however, it is accepted that it may not be possible to readily determine the functioning of self levelling systems. In such cases, the benefit of the doubt must be given. Headlamp washers may work in conjunction with the windscreen washers (when the dipped beam headlamps are switched on) or by a separate switch.

Reason for failure
2. A headlamp levelling or cleaning device inoperative or otherwise obviously defective.

Nothing to state that HID's must have a cleaning system or that the car will fail if it is removed. 56 TDV8 Vogue SE
