10 months in and ONLY £1800 down! Wish mine was as cheap to run!!! Purchased March 2010 (its a 2003 4,4V8) for £11500 with a £2500 trade in on a 'P' reg P38, anyway, gearbox was leaking oil so the dealer had the box reconditioned at a place in Reading. Wife collected the car (I'm working in Paris), 3 months later reverse gear goes so car back to the gearbox place in Reading where they say the valve block is cracked, so repaired under their warranty. First major service comes up at T.H.White in Swindon, and guess what, the car hasnt been serviced properly for 2 years, so its into us for £2000 for brakes, discs, brake pipes, suspension bushes etc, etc. We go for a long weekend to Cornwall in it, everything great until 10 miles from home when it goes into limp home mode. Off to another transmission place in Westbury (a decent one!) where the 'recon' on the gearbox could have been (or probably had been) done by a blind chimpanzee! Problem was the radiator was blocked on the bottom 6 rows (common fault), so causing a gearbox overheat, triggering the limp home mode. Total cost (including new Torque Converter and a proper gearbox rebuild, plus radiators), a shade of £4000. As of this week (£500 for seat wiring repair and glovebox latch), we're up to around £18,500 (this does include its normal service charges) over 3 years! |

my cars previous owner had that gearbox overheat error, it had the trans rad changed, and then the gearbox reconned, and still did it. turned out to be the transmision fluid feed and return pipes. one had blocked/collapsed internally. sorted now. been driving fine in my ownership. it was one of my ticks on perchase list. -get one with recon gearbox. however had he gone to a specialist they might have diagnosed the blocked pipe. -earlier. i have replaced one trans pipe before on a classic, it was about 100 quid! |

Still looking forward to my next one tho'..... I like to think that with my constant playing around with bits and pieces that I keep on top of potential problems, but realistically, and I will never admit this, I have probably just been lucky. Previously..

I will be corrected but I'm sure the price was down to the amount of them and the labour |

There's only 2, so that makes £400, which leaves £2,800 for labour? Even by LR standards, that's a lot! Got - 2017 SDV8 Autobiography in Loire Blue
