Thinking maybe FFRR to XKR

With two big 4x4's I'm starting to think this is overkill and maybe it's time for a radical change!

So upgrade the wife's D3 to a D4 for the family and after 10 years and 3 FFRR's jump ship to something more fun with "POWERrrrrr!" Cool

So far, and apart from a Bentley Continetal GTC this is all that appears of any interest:

I will also have to get a little run around for work when turning up in an XK8 is less than appropriate Whistle

Any thoughts good and bad welcome but please dont say get an 'F' type as believe it or not the tiny, incy wincy rear seats will get used! Embarassed

Just checked the insurance and a 170mph 5.0 litre supercharged convertible sports car is two thirds the cost of my Range Rover Shocked What's that all about Rolling Eyes

I like XKR's and have thought about getting one. I really like the exterior of the current one, but the interior I think is a bit of a let down. Fab engine - shame it doesn't have the 8 speed box. Great GT car that's also seriously sporty. I would like the hard top but that's just my personal preference.

The depreciation first year is shocking. Maybe it's a Swiss thing with the exchange rates, but I've seen a April 2012 model that cost CHF 180k new now advertised for CHF 80k and it's only done 16000km. Shocked

Maybe that doesn't include the purchase discount, but still.

Excelent choise second hand, just like the full fat. Thumbs Up

More fun and more power?

That XKR is what, 55k, 60k? For that money you can get yourself into an 08 997 turbo convertible. Proper fast. In fact, point to point, probably one of the quickest cars you can buy.

And, believe it or not, the rear seats in the Pork have more legroom than the XKR - I looked at XKRs before getting my 996 turbo cab.

Don't get sucked into an anti-Porsche sentiment. If nothing else, test drive one. The turbo is a supremely competent piece of kit.

Eta: alternatively, if you're prepared to sacrifice a bit in the outright speed department, that money will get you into what is (IMO) the prettiest car on the road right now: a Maserati Gran Cabrio.

Eta#2: or, if you want blue chip, a DB9 convertible. How did you narrow your search down to the XKR and the Bentley, btw?

For that money a 2-3yr old merc cl63 or 4 old cl65 wouldn't be a bad investment Twisted Evil '08 Audi S6 Avant 5.2 V10 with Milltek non-resonated. Vrrrrrrmmmmmph

Frank aka XXXAngelXXX runs an SC FFRR and his wife 1.0 runs an XKR, I'm sure he will give some good advice.

DB9 is a good choice if you can stand the running costs and is very special indeed. The XKR you are looking at is also nice and has a superb engine. Current MY2020

That also has the aero pack and sports exhaust and a good colour combo. Harwoods Chichester are a good dealer having used them in the past

I'd go for the Bentley. We have a V8 one and the build quality is second to none...plus it's cheaper than the W12 and sounds better and is more economical etc!

My wife's SL500 will be going soon and I'm trying to steer her towards the XKR. She's not convinced yet, as the soft top / lack of hard top issue is a big problem for her. Personally I would do it but there are practical reasons to look at other marques.

Thanks for the comments and feedback so far Thumbs Up It's interesting that on a Range Rover forum more than half think I should jump to the Jag with almost three quarters saying I should dump the FFRR anyway! Shocked

As with most things, especially cars, its very much a personal choice and although the other suggestions are nice it has to be a convertible, look and sound great, with so called 4 seats Laughing and make me smile. So far, on paper the Jag fits the bill and although it depreciate faster than it's top speed it does still represent good value considering the price of an equivalent Bentley or Aston.

Unfortunately I have today been advised that this particular car is now sold Big Cry Not surprised really as it was a very nice colour, spec and price Whistle but I'm in no rush and I still have to find the right D4 to get the green light but the comments here, reviews and youtube clips I have read and seen are only making me want one more Cool

Don't get me wrong I love my Range Rover and when the winter comes I may regret my actions if I have changed! If I haven't I will be carefully evaluating the road conditions and how would I feel if I was driving the Jag Rolling Eyes

I wouldn't completely rule out a future post saying "I couldn't do it Embarassed what do you think of my L405 Laughing "

Cheers and keep the opinions coming Bow down

The way L405's are holding value still i dont think in that price bracket you will see anything but an SDV6 come up before xmas. They are just controlling used stock far to well at the minute and those cheap ones are the early ones aswel....

I like the Jags but how about an RS6 Drop top?
An L322 5.0SC with all the toys on and a lovely sound, specially if you spent a little bit on a nice better than LR exhaust for it and you wouldn't need a seconds car either Smile

For the D4 are you looking at XS trim with any extras fitted and say about 2011 when the new gearbox started coming in and better touchscreen setup? FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's
Mantec Sump Guard, Rigid Load liner, MY10 BT upgrade.
