Air-con: blowing hotter after 20 mins

2007 TDV8 Vogue

Always driven with the air-con on without any problems. Recently, however, it has started to raise the temperature from its set 18 degrees to something unbearably warm, without driver intervention. This only happens on the driver's side and typically (though not always) after about 20-30 minutes of driving.

Generally a bit of knob-twiddling will be followed by the temperate coming back down to where it was set.

I'm guessing it's a sensor issue, and hoping it's not the potential dash out problem a local dealer speculated.

Anybody fixed a similar problem? And where is the sensor, if I replace it?

You may be right but it can also still be the level of gas in the system. If the cost is not too high, just have the gas checked and refilled. MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
Have the Faultmate MSV2 Extreme to be tinkering with the settings etc. !!

I agree with Eugene... First have the gas checked, that will be cheapest and easiest to start with.
Just having gone through a replacement of the condenser, the conderser fan and repairs to the aircon electrics in the dash and everything working again but I started with checking of the gas. In my case one thing identified another problem but you have to start somewhere and preferably with something basic and cheap.

i kinda think its not a regas job but something to do with temperature control or a sticky switch/flap? ... - .- -.

I agree with Stan. If you turn the temp right down and get cold air on a warm day it pretty much confirms you don't need a regas and the problem lies elsewhere. 4.4 TDV8 Vogue Baltic Blue MY11

Exactally the same issue I had few weeks ago, LHS cold RHS warm, regas solved it .... search my previous post for my theory on why there was a difference between sides.

Worth noting that after 10 mins the temp coming from RHS was measured with a FLIR camera and showed 25deg yet outside temp was 22 at the time - presume the RHS of the evaporator was actually warming up from the engine .... my IIDTool confirmed a massive difference in evaporator temp pre and post refill yet LHS was consistently (although not very) cold.

No experience behind this comment, so you've been warned. The aircon has an auto feature, so could it be 10 min of "must cool down car as quickly as possible" followed by warmer temperatures to "maintain current temperature"? Just an idea.

My 2010 SC has the reverse problem the faster you travel the colder it gets. You have to set temp at 22 and then gets to hot no in-between Sad

The air con in my '97 Discovery I works fine, but due to the heat from the V8, when the AC is off, the temperature range goes from HOT (at the cold setting) to UNBELIEVABLY HOT (at the hot setting). Not a problem in the winter; use the AC in the summer. Very Happy

How to Clean Temperature Sensor

Anybody know how to get at the TEMP SENSOR to clean it? I have the A/C Head Unit out and cover off but still no access to behind TEMP SENSOR grille?
