New Steering Wheel & Handbrake Grip Fitted

Tonight I decided to fit my new steering wheel and handbrake grip which I received from Powerful on Wednesday.

I went for the standard grained leather finish with the chrome spokes, I did think about perhaps a walnut finish but I'd heard the heating function wasn't much cop on the re-finished steering wheels Confused and Powerful reckoned it'd be circa 6 - 8 week until they got any back in stock Whistle

I also fitted a new handbrake grip as mine was fairly worn and tatty (just like the steering wheel) I had originally ordered the walnut with 'chrome' supercharged logo (I know my car isn't a Supercharged but I liked the chrome strip which ties in with the gear knob) Smile Any how unfortunately Powerful had an issue with an item being wrongly numbered and I was sent the wrong item Crying or Very sad It turned out they weren't getting anymore in for 8 - 12 weeks Crying or Very sad so I decided I'd give the foundry finish a go (its close to foundry but seems much more hard wearing and I actually think it looks quite good) and Powerful gave me a decent discount because the wrong item turned up Razz

If your 'wheel is a Powerful refurb item (I.e. not brand new Genuine and therefore you sent your old one back on exchange), then check VERY carefully the heating works properly. The one I bought for my old '02 looked and felt fantastic and was identical to the one you've got but the heating was reasonable at first, although not as good as original, and just got worse over time. Si. <This is my name.

Looks good.

Really pleased I upgraded mine.

Went for the soft nappa OE version, as I'd heard the grain can hold dirt over time.

That said, its only an issue if you let the dirt build up, and the soft nappa one is more expensive..........

The original ones do get in a state. Almost like "not leather".

Handbrake looks good.

Thanks Smile Although my airbag does need a good clean Twisted Evil

I would have went nappa leather but Powerful didn't have much in stock at all (if truth be told I would probably have went walnut) Question So my only choice was really this or something with the 'sport grip' (which I didn't want)

Bellini the heated steering function appears to be considerably better than my old one (which is good news), although according to the powerful advert the one I bought isn't re-trimmed (Its a New LR item)

More Upgrades

Fitted a few new bits to the Range tonight Smile

My 'in dash' cupholder was inoperable and the coating was detaching so I sourced a replacement from Powerful UK

As you can see the coating was stripping off

And the gear was missing

The previous owner of my car when they had the conversion carried out including the HSX rear bumper decided to stick the rear bumper 'kick plate' with bathroom sealant, which didn't adhere and also looked awful as it was sitting fairly high, so I removed it spent a few hour stripping the sealant and refitted with double sided tape (which looks considerable better)

My rear wiper arm was also in a bit of state, corroded badly and stiff in operation so I got myself a replacement part from Powerful including the wiper blade and set to work stripping off and replacing it, surprisingly this was quicker than I expected.

And a nice general photo to finish off Laughing

Looking good Andy. It is amazing how changing a few tired parts can give the car a new lease of life. I am planning on wrapping the gear surround trim and rear console trim with 3M gloss white aluminum wrap to match the newer style trim on the 2006 onwards models. Tom

I agree, my RR is now looking (condition wise) like a new motor. I've been quite lucky really buying the car already converted as it would have cost me a pretty penny to do all my little jobs (which have added up to almost 1k Embarassed ) Now: BMW 640d M Sport, Alpine White

Changed my rear wiper arm at the weekend, went ok until the plastic nipple on the spindle fell out, twice. Cue the wife "WTF are you doing?" Hands & knees for ages looking for the wee bastid.!
