Door mirror cover

I have been struggling to remove the main cover from my door mirror so that I can paint it.

I have a late 2005 4.2 s/c and have tried inserting a pallet knife between the main cover and the rectangular glass surround.

The surround comes free but that is as far as it goes. No sign of the main cover coming loose.

Can someone point, me in the right direction?

You are struggling because they don't come off... They are plastic welded together...

Not sure what you mean Craig. The rectangular surround comes off quite easily. It appears that the main body, which is all in one piece, unlike others which are split half way up, can not be removed without detaching and dismantling the whole mirror assembly.

If it is the same as mine (original '02 > ) then the main cover (the big bit) should just fall off IIRC as it is only held on by the ring @ the mirror.

However, could be as Cam tech Craig says, and though looking the same as mine, is in fact a different design ??? .

Mine are like that and I don't think it is an easy job to remove the casing. It seems to be screwed/bonded in place from inside. Land Rover sell the covers that stick on top of them, and they work very well I bought some Java Black ones from Duckworths.

Other than that, mask off the parts you don't want painted sand, prime, paint and clear coat the part while on the vehicle. Tom

As I said, you have a facelift car with later mirrors that are not designed to come apart as they are plastic welded together in the factory... Rolling Eyes
