battery charging

Due to doing a low mileage I've had to top up the battery using my Ctek charger, not a problem in the garage just a pain leaving the bonnet open and crocodile clips onto the battery.

Last week I found the ideal solution (it was here all the time but had not noticed it) a Towing Socket Charger Adapter from the forum shop. Ordered one and connected it up via the towing socket and Ctek, 24 hours later battery fully charged in a much more secure way than previously used.

An excellent product, thanks Martin.

Really good idea, everyone should have one even if it's only to guarantee being able to charge the battery when unable to get into the car due to key / battery problems.
Just don't store it in the car. Very Happy Thumbs Up

I've always used trickle chargers and these can be plugged into the cigar lighter socket in the boot. 2009 Vogue TDV8 Nara Bronze

Martins adapter avoids either leaving a door or window open or clamping the cable in the door seal. This is what attracted me to it.

I stuck one of these in the rear side window of the FF and plugged it into the socket in the boot:

It just needs to see light, not necessarily direct sunlight, to charge so it's topping up all day.
If nothing else it makes a difference in the winter up here with only 5-6 hours of daylight a day the lights, heater & wipers are on most of the time so any bit of extra charge helps the battery. Mr. Green

do you know with this charger connection, if you can apply a voltage to it when changing batteries so the FFRR does not lose supply at any point?
so my CTEK has this function - can it still be used?

Yes you can.
I do it on mine by plugging the Ctek into an accesorry socket. Same difference.
You have to remember of course the + battery connection will have +12 V on it whilst you change the battery so after disconnecting it from the battery you need to wrap it the end in somerthing insulating to prevent it touching the car bodywork otherwise sparks will fly. Laughing Thumbs Up
