Glove Compartment Latch and spring - L322 2004

Hi Dan

Whilst trying to remove the glove box to get at the CD changer I, like many others (!), have managed to strip the thread on one of the two screws that holds the latch mechanism in place. I'm going to try and remove the damaged one tomorrow, but I'm expecting to have to replace the whole latch. Could you get me a price on a replacement please?

Also, I am told that there should be a small spring, about the size of a biro spring, that fits back into the latch mechanism? Mine seems to have "pinged" off somewhere during the glove box removal process, so could you confirm if there should be one and if so, can you get hold of a replacement of one those too?

My VIN = Mod edit- vin removed for security

Thanks Mod for that Embarassed I'll pm my VIN to Dan Wink Cheers

Greg

If you have stripped the thread I think there is enough room to put a half nut on a longer screw

Thumbs Up

Thanks for the tip. I'll try that tomorrow. Very Happy

I'm still not sure about the spring. Don't suppose you know if there should be one located in the latch? Cheers

Had a quote the other day from the good man himself about this one yesterday £49 plus the vat Shocked I think there is a spring somewhere so I'll sell you my old spring for £11.49 plus vat hehe. I'm going to see if mine is broken beyond repair before coughing up.

Can't recommend Dan's services highly enough though, I recently bought some bits for my brakes and everything went perfectly at a great price.

there is a spring it sits in the latch behind the angled plunger if you look at the latch underneath is a slot the sprung shoots out from there and thats where you put it back in its fiddley I think mine got lost and I replaced with a biro spring from memory the type I used was the stronger type tighter wound at each end if any one knows what im on about Very Happy

Nice one spanner! That's exactly the answer I was after. Now where did I leave all those biros....

SteveyD - Cheers for the info on the price. If you do decide to "break" your latch for spares, I might be interested in the spring (if I can't find a suitable biro), but there could be a bidding war on the asking price of £11.49 +VAT asking price Rolling with laughter

Dan - SteveyD has answered my original question, so thanks anyway.

Thanks guys - ever helpful, as always Wink Cheers
