As above. Used JE Engineering for my 3.6TDV8 and the results were great. Circa 5%-10% increase in MPG. Wave of torque to play with. See their web site for the numbers. I also had my current 4.4 TDV8 remapped by JE with similar results. Can't recommend it enough. MY23 D350 HSE

i too used to get black smoke on kick down after remap. have been using BP ultima..get about 1mpg better. but the engine is smoother and very little black smoke. 2011 4.4 TdV8 Nara Bronze |

All remaps will give something out the back - you can't make a diesel go better without giving it more fuel *WHEN* it needs it - my remap suits me - it will give out a puff on hard acceleration, but that's to be expected. Be warned though - a remap moves the engine out of the 'safe' envelope, so if you are going on the continent, a blufin might be better for you so you can remove it and then keep up with traffic without fear of turbo/manifold problems |

I've never heard before that remap equals black smoke. And I've remapped a fair few vehicles and never seen any black smoke. I've had few flames out the back of a decatted remapped TVR Cerbera but that was planned |

A lot of standard diesels will smoke anyway but the smoke means that it is simply overfuelling, like flames from a petrol car its not good as your just wasting power at the end of the day.

To clarify, the flames out the back of my Cerbera was on overun and agree it's not efficient but was fun at the time |

Diesel smoke is just unburnt fuel. A properly mapped diesel should not be chucking smoke out. I'd be a bit worried if a petrol car was making flames under load ... |

I think he meant the overrun, which can happen as the fuel map doesn't respond fast enough (common issue in Denso ECU's). It's not a massive waste either, only a few CC's here and there, and considering you'll probably be doing single-digit mpg when getting the crackles and flames it probably isn't your biggest concern |

I used BlueFin it's seems fine with a significant improvement in low down power but I only use the grunt occasionally, there is (as there always is any diesel including my unchipped previous new Audis and Mercs) extra particulate emission on full throttle. This is more noticeable at night in your mirror when illuminated by the headlights of the car you just passed |
