Hi Guys,

Whilst driving on the M1 today, I noticed that there was a Judder in my steering wheel between 55/60mph...
The wheel was fine upto 55 and fine over 60... I wondered if anyone could suggets what may cause this before I take it to the stealer... ?

Might be worth checking the basics like is a wheel out of balance, tyre pressures etc.

Then if it's not that, jack it up and give the wheels a good push and pull to check for play in the bushes/bearings.

That would be my thoughts anyway.

Yep, I had a bit of judder once, funnily, around the same speed as yourself, and mine was due to the nearside front tyre pressure being about 5 lbs less than the offside. Added air and all OK (I don't have the tpms option as I assume that would have picked up on the lower pressure).

Just a point to remember for those with TPMS, it won't pick up very slow leaks in pressure, it has to be reasonably fast. I lost 6lbs or so in both fronts between services and got no warning. picked it up because of slightly uneven wear. You still need to check them now and then!

a warped brake disc also shows up like this, only takes a few thou and thats it makes horrible shakes at these speeds until you drive through it.

Heavy towing and use of brakes on steep inclines overheats the disc and causes warping, doesn't seem to affect brake efficiency just gives you the shakes

I recently had a full set of Pirelli Scorpion tyres fitted to our Disco3, and then had the exact same symptoms as you are experiencing. I went back on 4 seperate occasions to have them rebalance all 4 tyres, to no avail. They then replaced all 4 new tyres with another 4 new tyres, and rebalanced, and its been 100% since.

Just goes to show that even premium tyres are not 100% perfect from the factory. Just a thought.......

Well, after several trips to the garage, and a new set of front tyres, the ride was much better, but not right... I ended up having a small local tyre fitter looking into it and they sorted it out..... stick on nickle balancing on the rear wheels.......  4.4 V8 Vogue Adriatic - Cream leather

Wheel wobble will generally present itself at a certain speed of revolution as you experienced (I've always noticed its about 60mph) or upon braking.

9 times out of 10 its wheel balancing. Most times this will happen after you've had new tyres and they've just been rebalanced, I don't think they are ever as well balanced as when alloys and tyres are brand new. It's a constant bugbear of mine, I once took a car in to be balanced about 5 times before it solved the issue. You have to wonder just why the blokes can't do it first time every time.

My van has just had it's MOT and needed a front tyre, now has a very annoying wobble at 80-85mph, (white van man cruising speed)
