Went out earlier to start the Bat mobile and lo and behold the battery has gave up the ghost , so looks like a jump start from the power pack tomorrow and give the local stealers a call to supply and fit a Battery ….

Wife can't understand how i had the SC for 6 year without any battery problems and how the battery is gubbed on the TDV8 so soon ….

frustrating that, maybe petrol dont need as much power to start than diesels.. ... - .- -.

TDV8 does require more power than the V8SC to start but this shouldn't be an excuse. I would think battery is covered under 3 year warranty.

If it's under warranty why spend the money when its their issue?

These modern "maintenance free" batteries seem to generally last longer than the old top them up with distilled water types, but when they give up, they seem to do so with little warning.

I had one in a Jeep a few years ago. Drove into town to go to the fair. Spent an hour there, and when I got back to the car, there wasn't enough juice to unlock the doors. According to the AA man it's not an uncommon situation.

The battery in my power pack jump starter thing has just gone the same way.

this seems to be the OEM battery (varta) at £70 plus postage. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Mick - As long as you aren't trying to fit one of the physically longer 110 Amp/hour batteries it is a doddle to swap the battery over, should take no longer than 5-10 minutes - although I have had battery issues the last few weeks so am quite familiar with the swap process now

If you want the larger capacity 110 Amp/hour battery and less hassle on the fitting then there is a simple mod that I realised last week. The issue with the positive post of the battery and the explosive coupling charge comes about because you are not able to move the battery over to the right sufficiently to get the positive terminal on the post and the 'charge' located over to the side of the battery as there is some metalwork in the way. I considered removing some metalwork to accommodate the charge part of the positive terminal - but this seemed far too much like hard work (and i don't have the correct tools for the job anyway) and upon closer examination I realised that the base of the battery has plastic lugs on all sides to accommodate the various strapping solutions of the different manufacturers. I decided to remove the plastic moulding from the negative terminal end of the battery reasoning that this may afford me the extra couple of millimetres clearance that I needed. I would like to say that I carefully used a dremel to remove this plastic, but as I don't - a hardpoint saw did the job nicely
Removing this bit of plastic means that there is now sufficient space to get the battery in and the terminals on without having to force anything

I am guessing, but I think I may have invalidated my warranty with bosch, but if this battery goes again I will get the 100 Amp/hour one from eco which is the same size as the standard battery and will just drop in easily...

Cheers for all the pointers gents unfortunately the car is just out of Warranty I am just surmising its the battery tho can't see it being anything else as it started no problems yesterday , will give the dealership a phone tomorrow to get a price to supply and fit anyway
