I have had three 5.0SC. They averaged around 18-19mpg overall, 20-21 on a run, 12 around town. It is a fantastic engine, way better than the old 4.2SC. They also hold their value way better than most cars as long as you buy them at the right price.

I agree with the consumption, that's about what I get with reasonably sensible driving. As for holding value you must be joking. I reckon mine has lost £15 k a year. Big Cry

It is way better than the 4.2sc. It's almost a different car entirely with the engine, brakes and suspension changes.

And you would be wrong ...

Wanna bet ? how can you say that when a generically chipped TDV8 puts out 800nm of torque compared to a SC at 460, a custom map will prob closer to 820-30 nm of torque and 60 hp increase. Its the torque that makes it accelerate the HP is purely what gives it top end Wink up to 80-100 the SC will be toast. weve just finished chipping well over 10,000 vehicles for a company so do speak from experience, these days for performance diesel is the way to go, a 335 Td BMW will out perform a stock M3 when chipped properly. One day your life will flash before your eyes......................................make sure yours is worth watching!

There is nohing to stop you chipping a petrol and making it even faster as well.

Problem with diesel is they still won't rev whatever you do with them. They also sound terrible when cold and you can feel the vibration through the controls.

You will never get the same gains out of remapping a petrol as you will a diesel, but who cares they are both phoneomonal cars and plenty fast enough for large 4x4. Now I'm off as iv got a Censored slow td6

I dont like oil burners my self but the chip for an SC does not improve it that much, takes it to 655nm and 535hp, revs do not matter as the gearing will be different like they say Torque wins races HP is for bragging, bit like golf, drivings for show puttings for dough Ill have money on a chipped TDV8 over a 1/4 mile One day your life will flash before your eyes......................................make sure yours is worth watching!

A chipped 335d will only beat an M3 for in gear acceleration. Other than that it's going to get spanked by the M3, a chip doesn't affect cornering or braking ability.

As for a chipped TDV8 beating an SC, it'd be close, but even with all that torque acceleration is a combination of hp and torque. I doubt that you'd lop 1.5 seconds off the 0-60 time, even though the figures are impressive. Also the SC comes with the rear electronic diff as standard so that helps its cornering ability.

Torque is important, and lots of torque is good, but only if you have enough power. Otherwise F1 would be diesel wouldn't it?

Oh and a 5.0 SC puts out 625nm of torque as standard ...

Performance figures aside, the deciding factor will probably be driver ability. Si. <This is my name.

If you want to make a supercharged car faster the obvious answer is a smaller pulley along with a remap, seems a waste of time otherwise.

Peak power and torque figures aren't very illustrative (and it's silly to say one is "better" than the other if you actually think about what they are) - area under the curve is what you want, particularly in something like a Range Rover (who wants a narrow power band and never-ending gear changes?).

I tend to agree. I don't drive my FF terribly fast, but I like to know the performance is there should a rare occasion demand it.

Reading this thread has almost convinced me to keep my '02 V8 for a few more years yet and then change to a 5.0 S/C. Si. <This is my name.

I know and a generic chip adds 30nm hence 655 Thumbs Up whereas a generic chip adds 90nm to a TDV8 a custom map will add more ie 110 ish whereas a custom map on a SC may add 35 more , smaller pulley is the way to go but thats mechanical then so |i trump that with hybrid turbos and so it goes on, as for driver ability the diesel will be easier to drive, same with the 335D unless your jason Plato the diesel will be easier to drive fast see Ducati twin vs 1000cc 4cyl round a track Bow down One day your life will flash before your eyes......................................make sure yours is worth watching!
