Took the Golf in for an MOT last week and it failed on a leaky rear brake caliper. I traced the fault to a corroded sealing washer on the brake flexi hose (where it attaches to the caliper), so I replaced it. I then bled the brakes and the bleed nipple wouldn't tighten up. On closer inspection, it's stripped the thread in the hole That's the problem when you bring a steel nipple together with an alloy caliper.

Hi Noddy, I've got racing brakes/callipers on my other car, the callipers being 19 yrs old now. My engineer stripped & rebuild them and as part of that exercise he had to heli-coil a couple of the more worn nipples and it worked fine. (He couldn't fit oversized nipples by rethreading the existing holes as they are too close to the edge of the callipers and would have risked the alloy fracturing but you may be able to do this).

I've done all of the above- I would use eBay but I need it by Wednesday. I've just dropped it off at an engineering shop (mate of a mate) who said he should be able to do something with it. 2010 MY Vogue SE TDV8 3.6 Stornoway Grey- fully loaded |
