I have just been out for a sort drive, not that it makes any difference to the problem.

When i start the car and its raining (as normal) the rain sensing wipers don't come on automatically.
If I move the stork to off position and then back to auto all is fine.

Is this normal on our cars as on my RRS they worked auto all the time.

Anyone else have the same thing.

Same on mine. Wipers have to be turned off and then on again to activate. I think its to stop people driving in to car washes not realising that the wipers are on!  2012 5.0L S/C

IIRC its to make sure that they dont kick on when first turning the ignition on incase the screen is frozen.

Still stupid because the heating elements dont sit down near the wiper park position at all.... FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

IIRC mine do the same but can be kicked into life by changing the sensitivity rocker by 1 click.

Exactly the same here in my '02. I too find it annoying as the auto wipers on my E55 stay on auto all the time.

LR missed a trick there, in my opinion. MB's single stalk system is just sooo damn good and intuitive. Si. <This is my name.

I complained about this a while ago on a thread, which resulted in me realising that I'd be even more annoyed if it tried to automatically wipe when the wipers were frozen to the screen, so I changed my mind and decided that it was better how it actually operated.........

On my 11MY they are constantly on if the stalk is in the auto position.

If I remember rightly the D3/Sport are almost completely Ford designed whereas the FFRR is BMW based but then moved over to Ford components (facelift = ran out of BMW seats). So the wiper systems seem to work in the same way as a BMW or Ford do. BMW are sensible and don't want to tear your wipers off if the weather is cold (sensible German logic), whereas Ford are lazy and keep the wipers on in case you forget (typical American logic).

BMW automatic wipers are always by means of a button on the end of the right stalk. When pressed once, you get an initial wipe and an illuminated green light. When the ignition is stopped/if the stalk is pressed again, automatic stops.

Makes sense that this 'rule' was applied to the BMW-based FFRR but with the hardware the way it is it doesn't really make sense to have to cancel and re-push the stalk up. AFAIK, the 10MY- Range Rover is almost entirely Ford based, hence the change.

must have changed on the later models as mine stay on auto & work again next time without turning on/off again.
