Instruments

Advice please team, I am not sure if this should be in technical electronic or maintenance treads so start here.
On start up the instrument needles "tick" for a few seconds then stay in their home positions, turning off and back on sometimes cures it or not. It has been ongoing for a few months and seems to be getting worse. Only the speedo tacho fuel and temp gauges are affected.
I have had the instrument cluster out when replacing the back lights so checked all the connections then.
Any ideas appreciated or if anyone has a spare cluster I could try?

Thanks Andy Mine was a blue one! Smile

Hi Andy. You really have had a run of bad luck lately.

Not sure if it helps but there is a test accessed by the 2 buttons on the console which cycles the dials through all their ranges.

Maybe in the wiki secret codes

Hi
Yes found that if they are working the instruments test normally if they are in one they just "tick" so I suspect it's just the instruments but that seems to open a whole new can of worms about replacement. Mine was a blue one! Smile

Bump.
Anyone had similar or any advice on where to get cluster repaired or if I get a replacement is it a straight swop but I believe it might throw up a "spot" on the milometer?
Thanks Mine was a blue one! Smile

These folk are one of the leading repairers...

http://www.bba-reman.com/uk/index.aspx

Several ads on ebay for repairs, mostly the pixel issue but some of them will do more....

A second hand one will make it look like it's been clocked and could effect resale.... Pete

Any other electrical gremlins ?

Ours did something similar when we had a duff battery. We also had a few other random lights, seat not moving when using the other key etc.

The battery showed as faulty on a garage tester, with a new battery, all is OK

Thought about the battery I have given it a good charge, it didn't seem to make any difference but the fault is intermittent, only other issue is air suspension warning coming on and off. If I look at off road screen while the message is on all four wheels show the little red icons are at the bottom of the wheels then after a few minutes it goes back to normal with icons in their normal position? Mine was a blue one! Mine seemed to charge ok, but a proper battery tester showed it as defective.

I'm not sure exactly what the problem was, the machine just said that it needed replacing.

Halfords and others should test it for free, so worth checking.
