United Kingdom

I am running several Range Rovers and LR's, one of which is a Vogue TD6, mapped from new buy JE, plus a few extra tweaks to get the 0-60 well below 10 and into TDV8 territory.

78k and no gearbox issues for what its worth!

2-3 extra mpg is worth a lot though in 78K!

would I do it again, too bloody right!

gearbox flushed? no and I have absolutely no intention of doing so either

LR do not recommend it, if they did I would. Obviously they are of the opinion it has a limited life in any event due to the valves blocks and flushing it or oil changes won't make much difference.

[quote="mjdronfield"]The GM gearboxes in the Td6 tend to fail due to the valve bodies being made from slightly softer aluminium. The bores wear and deposit metal bits in the oil, which thus causes more wear. The wear causes a drop in hydraulic pressure which tends to make the clutches ? work a bit harder...... the only real fix is a valve block with the Sonnax upgrade, which effectively lines the bores with harder steel and stops the wear.

So do the companies that recon these gearboxes do the sonnax upgrade as part of the course?
Or do they recon to standard spec?

I started to do a bit of research on it, and found that some did standard rebulds, some had the sonnax upgrade, but not to all the valves. I'm not a gearbox expert, so have no idea why you would not do all the valves, and whether you indeed have to have them all done.

There was also mention of a Sonnax oil pump upgrade for the gearbox.

This was mentioned in a few threads, and I think other did some research too ;

Have a search for sonnax.
