[SOLVED] - Rear washer problem?

I very rarely use it, but tried it a couple of days ago, got a dribble (from the washer!) then that was it.

I can't hear the pump motor going when I push the right hand stalk away to activate wash/wipe.

Can someone advise on how the rear washer works ( I can't remember if you only have to activate once then the washer pump/wipe cycle takes care of itself, or if every time you push the stalk away you get "pump action")

Should the pump still operate if the washer is blocked?

No need for links to the rear washer blocked repair job, I think this is a pump problem. .

The jet on the wiper arm will be blocked up with crud, a poor design

I doubt if it's the jet but more as like the non return valve on the pipe just before the water goes into the wiper.
replace it with a new one or just drill it out.

Thanks John and Jonno.

One thing on the TD6 that is quiet is the pump. Running without the engine on I could hear it.

So old toothbrush and needle on a cork at the back end, and a few presses of the stalk and all back up and running.

For info, one press of the stalk gives me a squirt, a wipe, a squirt, a wipe, then three more wipes.
(Just like a good Saturday night out Laughing )

On doing this I noticed that the wiper arm is hitting the fibreglass spoiler on the way back to its resting place, and that the arm is not making its way underneath. Looks like the spoiler needs some spacers underneath to lift it up a bit. Also spotted that the high level brake light has a big crack in it on top. Obviously been there a while and not spotted by the MOT guy as above eye level Wink .

I get 3 squirts.... I used to get 1, but I traced the fault to the valve. The water was running back down the pipes. The first 2 squirts just filled the pipe back up and the 3rd came out. If you are only getting 2 squirts it could be your non return valve on its way out. Thumbs Up Previously..

Could be different firmware given 4 years difference between cars. My handbook doesn't say how many squirts, but does say it will give 3 more wipes once the "washing" has finished. Maybe it depends on how long you hold the stalk against the spring for? .

Just replaced my rear washer arm as the joint had corroded preventing the spring from pressing the arm against the screen and the washer jets werent working properly, I thought it may have been the non return valve as to why i had no squirting however a new arm in position its working fine.

About £60 fitted at the dealer. Not too bad really. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜
