I actiually found the Td6 quite acceptable bar two things.

1. The noise at start up (TDV8 was much nicer)
2. The dreadful noise when the fan was working fully due to the temp. It was very loud.

I'm sure you won't regret getting an SC Stan.
I regretted the TDV8 because the seats were much less comfortable being the later model. Maybe I should have done the same...

I test drove a TD6, the sound on startup and when the fan was running was embarrassing, you would put your foot down, the car wouldn't move much and make a lot of noise. Was also scary in corners.

I ended up going for an S/C - great ride, the power is great, quiet and confortable and puts some other cars to shame.

I have a few other nice cars, but mostly end up using the S/C.

I used to think fuel was an issue but have since gotten used to it and figured out life was too short to complain about bills Smile

I did test drive a TDV8 4.4 which surprised me, doesn't sound like a diesel, actually sounds like a petrol V8! also feels good to drive (power/torque). However I'm glad I didn't do the trade in at the time as I'm seeing that these have taken a bit of a dive recently.

In terms of value for money, ride quality and the amount of high end kit you get (i.e. Brembo brakes, HK sound, etc) the S/C is the one to go for.

As a side note, I have a 2010 TDV6 3.0 for the lady which is very smooth and quiet and a great drive... shame they didn't use this engine in the Vogue.

I'm gonna go one step further and say the S/C is so quiet I'm considering an exhaust upgrade to try and unleash a bit of that V8 rumble... however only if I can find a switchable system with a remote control, that would be awesome!

Surely watching the fuel gauge drop would have told you it was running Wink

I must agree with Gary but I suppose it comes down to what you are used to. My previous was a 300TDi Discovery Auto that only had a straight through box in the exhaust. When I first the TD6 I couldnt believe how quiet it was. Now after I have de-catted it and removed the EGR I can hear the engine a lot more which is something I like. I had the bonnet open yesterday and with the engine running was amazed that it has no visible movement.
