Wanted, reasonably cheap diesel estate car.

I'm on the lookout for a reasonably cheap diesel estate car. Preferably Mondeo or similar, but would consider others on merit.

Robert.

ps: I'm keeping my FFRR just need a car for work. Very Happy The reason women's minds are cleaner than a mans mind is that women change their minds more often!

I'm looking at spending about £ 2/3K & condition is more important than mileage.

I'd say in thy budget you have the older Xantias with the 1.9td engine(slow-Ish, 50mpg easily doable but strong as hell!) or the 110HDi engined ones(not as strong as the 1.9 but still able to do 200k+ easily, and a bit new economical than the 1.9 as can see over 60mpg)

Or the C5 mk1's with the 110hdi 8v engines. They are strong and just need a good service history and check and see if the suspension pump has been replaced as they can sometimes go an aren't cheap or easy to do but worth it Smile

Don't let the suspension of the above ever put you off. They are very easy to look after and in the case of the xantia much easier than a l322 or p38 air sprung rangie Smile the bodies can take a lot of abuse and if the engine bay is a bit messy don't worry as they often don't have under trays so clag up really quickly.
The 1.9td allows various fuels to be used legally and help reduce costs further and for your price you should be able get one with 12mths T&T without a sweat and good service history as well as have loads of change left over. Do service it every 6k though and the fuel filter as well as they are often missed off a normal service Smile FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

I'm afraid 30yrs of being a paramedic taught me that Citreons in particular fold like a pack of wet cards in accidents. Shocked

Now I dont go out looking for accidents (in a manner of speaking) but they happen all too frequently & I've got no notion of having my legs pointing the wrong way as well as being considerably shorter, I've already had that experience & it wasn't very nice. Big Cry

So sorry guys, the French cars are out. I am interested in the Volvo V70, I had a brand new V50 a while back & it never missed a beat.

I second the Volvo V70 idea. I own a diesel auto S60 (saloon version of the same car) and its fantastic value for that money. Does a real 48 - 50 mpg. And volvos are safe as houses unlike the Xantia.

If you want safe you buy nearly new. If you want cheap buy older. How about a xsara hdi?? FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's
