The First (or 3rd !!) Range Rover Ever Made

Went to The Heritage Motor Centre in Gaydon yesterday, and saw this famous old timer........

at least that was what I thought it said on the plaque. Looks like it could be the 3rd made.......see here

I knew someone would ask who the old timer was - its my Uncle. Rolling with laughter He used to get mistaken for Noel Edmonds when he had a beard........!!

Sorry, didn't take interior pictures as it was locked and I thought the reflection from the glass would spoil it. Sounds weird I know, but you had to see the sun streaming in from outside....... 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

YVB 151H is actually the first production Range Rover - Chassis Number 1. Its owned by the land Rover Centre in Huddersfield:

There's a good page on the history of the Range Rover showing some of the prototypes; and YVB152H - Chassis number 2 - which was converted to a six wheeler:

Thats not what the plaque said for it. Sure it was something like "first one off the production line" ? Were the others "hand assembled" perhaps ?

Have edited the first post to put your link in. Cheers.

Were the chassis numbered consecutively ?

It was def the first of something.....

Looks like a good day out.
Would you say it would be worth a 5 hour journey to see it ?

I went from Chesterfield, which I think is about 100 motorway miles each way.

There is the Land Rover Experience there as well, and we didn't have time to see that, so if you spend even more time travelling, you're probably only going to get to see the cars in the "museum" bit.

You can see pics of some other cars in my other threads.

Highlights for me were ;

The first of "something" Range Rover (in this thread),
The Range Stormer
The Tomb Raider Defender
The last Rover ever made,
Worlds Fastest Jaguar
An Austin Maxi rally car
The last Triumph Spitfire and MG Midget made.
The first Land Rover made.
Paddy Hopkirks rally Mini
Worlds oldest Mini (1959)
Rover prototypes,
Metro 6R4 rally car
Tony Pond's Triumph TR8
A pre-production mini metro from the 1980 motor show
Cortina 1600E, Triumph Stag
Lady Penelope's car from the Thunderbirds film.

Plus tons of vintage cars and stuff I didn't really read too much about.

There is a cafe and a cinema, which shows old films about the mini being made and stuff about old Austins etc.

Its £11 per adult to get in, but you can then get in for free with your ticket for 12 months.........

There is stuff for the kids to do and a little car track outside for them to have a go on.

Its smaller than you may think, but if you look at everything, I'm sure you will fill the day up.

There is also a reference library and a reading room, where you can look at archives of car tests and Autocar magazines etc from 1950 odd..........

We got there around 12 I think, and we were the last to leave at 5pm.......

The web site is here ;

http://www.heritage-motor-centre.co.uk/

Its spread over a circle building with 2 floors, of which you can see prob less than a quarter of the ground floor here ;
