I'd say in thy budget you have the older Xantias with the 1.9td engine(slow-Ish, 50mpg easily doable but strong as hell!) or the 110HDi engined ones(not as strong as the 1.9 but still able to do 200k+ easily, and a bit new economical than the 1.9 as can see over 60mpg)

I second the Volvo V70 idea. I own a diesel auto S60 (saloon version of the same car) and its fantastic value for that money. Does a real 48 - 50 mpg. And volvos are safe as houses unlike the Xantia. |
