You can have my 53 plate Vogue for £50k, Id then move on to something better, say a newer one! Frustrating in parts (electrics and gearbox) but never fails to put a smile on my face when im driving it! The FFRR is simply the best!! Good luck with your choice!

I bought my 54 plate FFRR Td6 in November 2010 so I have had it nearly 19 months.

In that time I have:

(figures from memory, fitted by good local indy, may be slightly off but not by much)

Replaced gearbox - £1900
Replaced transferbox - £800
Replaced steering column - £900
2 front air struts - £900
4 new tyres - £700
Big service 2 - £325
Replaced boot seal - £80
ABS sensor replaced - £80
Tracking done twice - £40
New air compressor - £250

That is a total running cost, excluding fuel, road tax, insurance etc of £314 per month.

So, how would I rate my ownership?

10 out of 10, no doubt at all.

I had my Td6 remapped so it now makes around 240 bhp and 400 ft lbs, all the new kit above has it driving like new and nothing else comes close.

This is my first FFRR and I can honestly say that I will never again have the household fleet without one .

Given we are all FFRR enthusiasts (keen enough to join a forum) you are unlikely to get less than a 10 from most, in terms of total ownership and driving experience.

It is probably the best car to own, drive and be seen in, but not the best if you want economy and reliability. The former three tend to heavily outweigh the latter two.  .
Experience is the only genuine knowledge, but as time passes, I have forgotten more than I can remember

I've had mine ('53) just under 2 years and love it, but hate it when it needs more money spending on it. I understand it's getting old now so needs money. The alternator went 2days before we were due to drive to Somerset to see my sister inlaw and man did we miss not having the FF with us.

If something can't be fixed with a hammer....... You have yourself an electrical fault!

Enjoyment to drive. 9 (not tried every car in the world yet)
Reliability 8 (fkin battery issues only)
Running costs 7 (LPG helps a lot & Swift ins cover)

What can I say - Great vehicle, the best presence & drive on the road. But as with any expensive luxury marque be aware of high servicing costs & big depreciation.

It'll probably be well worth waiting until September time if the new L405 is launched then because there is likely to be further drops in price and you might even get a 1 year to 18 month old 4.4TD for 50K

We can't get diesels over here, and LPG conversion is simply not done.
My statements about relative speed were based on US models; AND I was incorrect, they don't apply to UK models.
Here in US, the only "spec" is HSE, a couple options can be added, but we don't have vogue, and the rest.
HSE is top-spec here.
2012 RR 0-60: 7.2 sec
2012 RR SC 0-60: 5.9 sec
2012 RRS 0-60: 7.2 sec

So my question becomes...
If the RR Sport is NOT faster than the FFRR, what's the point?
What makes "Sport", if not speed?

Take an LR3, change the body, call it a new car, raise the price.
People fall for that all the time; look at chevrolet/pontiac/buick/oldsmobile/cadillac or ford/lincoln/mercury. Jim

Guess it's just an image thing & sportier suspension if you like to corner fast.
Best go ask the nice guys on rrsport forum, but we normally get abused on there

I really hope the new L405 doesn't loose the high comfort levels on the current daddy. If they sport it up, where will us old codgers go for a decent ride ?

Do RR drivers wave at each other over there?

I wave at every LR I see, been doing it for years, and here's what I get back:
RR Classic: always wave
Defender: always wave (Defenders are very rare here)
P38: almost always wave
Disco: almost always (as a %, more than P38, but not as much as Classic)
LR3, LR4, LR2, Freeloader: poseurs, can't figure out why I'm waving at them
RR Sport: Driven by nose-in-the-air nimrods; they aren't even aware there are other vehicles on the road, so they never see me wave
FF RR: usually driven be self-absorbed execs and their Barbie Plasti-wives, if they even see me, they just look right through me

The discos & Classics look surprised when I'm in the FFRR & I wave first - LOL!

Also, as a percentage of cars on the road, I think LR in general is a MUCH smaller segment here compared to there.
Now I'm curious, so I'll look up "cars on the road".  Jim

They used to ! When I had classics, most would flash (lights !! ) or give wave & beep.

Since having a FF, have to say no one bothers. We've all gotten miserable from the millenium onwards !
I feel now that you're just as likely to get a rude sign back even if you wave friendly Everyone thinks you're having a go
