What's the point?

So, Mrs C asked me the other day, what's the point of the RRS? Why not just have the Disco and the FFRR?

I must admit I didn't have a ready answer! The RRS, to the untrained eye, looks pretty much the same, superficially, as the FFRR. Now WE all know it's just a Disco in a party frock, but Joe Public seemingly doesn't.

So why did JLR pitch two seemingly very similar models alongside each other. Was it really just for the Cheshire bling set?

FYI don't lump the majority of Cheshire in with a small area populated by footballers just because Clarkson says so.

The cheapest used RRS is way more expensive than the cheapest used FF ... I'm seeing more "chavs" in the FF than sport simply because they are now more affordable.

Therefore the sport is more exclusive muhahah Twisted Evil

And, although I wouldn't buy one, the Sport is a better towing vehicle being based on a chassis rather than monocoque. That said, if I was worried about that I'd have a Discovery.

Interesting post, I am lucky enough to have both to use and I don't really consider myself a Chav (even if I do live in Essex) but I like my RRS. With reference to the cost, when I ordered the RRS I was offered a FF Vogue SE with 300 miles on the clock for the same money and just lately I have seen LPR advertise pre registered FF's for less than I paid for the RRS.

Personally, I wanted something slightly smaller than the FF with the same standard of luxury to use all the time, I had discovery's before and got a bit bored with the shape (that's another wasps nest prodded) don't get me wrong, I still love my FF but I have to admit I find myself using the RRS more. 12MY Black FF VSE

A long time ago in a dealer, not long after the RRS came out, the dealer made the comment to me:

The sport is for the people that aspire to be.
The RR is for those that are.

I've always liked that phrase. (but i do have a soft spot for the sport) V8 or else ...

Although I prefer the FF over the Sport, I'd buy a Sport over any of its rivals in a heartbeat. Si. <This is my name.

In outright terms the rrs may well be a slightly better tow car but the ff is hardly shabby. Just towed 2 1/2 hours back from norfolk in the death star and it was as smooth as silk. Personally i think the v8 suits pulling stuff better than a v6 rgardless of the monocoque on chassis status of the rrs and disco.

Me and swmbo looked at a few rrs before we bought the ff and personally the interior in the ff is better and that clInched it.

I might describe myself as a "sporty" driver Whistle But it was still a 1 horse race even given the better dynamics of the rrs. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer๐Ÿ˜œ๐Ÿ˜œ

Towed plenty of things with both L322s and Discoveries (Sport minus the drag).

Exactly what benefits are people attributing to the Sport/Discovery's construction?
