United Kingdom 2016 Range Rover Autobiography SDV8 Santorini Black

Personally i dont see what difference it should make. The characteristics are mostly defined by mass of car vs mass of trailer. So really the l322 should be better.

I think the idea is that on the disco/rrs the tow bar is mounted to the chassis as are the engine box and suspensiOn components, on the l322 its mounted to the monocoque rails and the running gear to sub assemblies. Though personally i dont see what massive difference it makes. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

I cannot see where the difference comes from either.

In the old days of the Classic and Discovery 1 loads of people said they were brilliant tow vehicles mainly because the 4 wheel drive meant that the caravan didn't get stuck in a field, but they were flawed in that the tow ball was mounted way behind the rear axle and the wheelbase was only 100". I tried pulling 3.5 tonnes of trailer and digger with a longish drawbar and recommended nose weight on one occasion and it was a case of trailer wins.

My friend has an 80 series LR and that is frightening.

The LSE Classic and the P38 improved matters and the L322 is better. The D3+4 has a wheelbase within 5mm of the L322 and the Sportisi 140mm shorter. All three are within 50Kg of each other in weight too. So I would have thought that it would be very difficult to separate them.

But of course I could be talking Bank Holiday nonsense!

As someone who has driven all 3, D4, SSRR, FFRR of newer and older types and even non SDV6 models, i can say the luxury of a new FF vs SS is quite different.

The new SS left me underwhelmed as some parts of it had plainly been put together in the dark and the engine soon ate itself! the D4 just worked and got covered in plenty of mud as well(i had a D4 HSE SDV6 and after that an XS TDV6) and while the D4 was basic luxury you get a very tough and capable car to boot.
The FF's. well what can you say. It does what it says on the tin Very Happy It goes, it wafts, it comforts.. its pure excellence tbh and the reason why as the year goes on im hoping to move to a 3.6 tdv8 Very Happy FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

Interesting responses. I really wasn't trying to prod a wasp's nest (sorry about the Cheshire comment!) but I'm struggling slightly to see why JLR didn't stick with the D3/4 and the FFRR, and then of they wanted something else, go the Evoque/Big Evoque/Range Stormer route. As I said, the RRS and the FFRR look too similar, and the RRS and the D3/4 are too similar mechanically (and internally?? The D3/4 are hardly shabby inside), so I just wondered what the philosophy behind the RRS was.

Probably saw the good sales figures from x5 and LR didnt have a really comparable model, ff too big, disco too utilitarian. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

@Cappo, it's fine, was just keen to make a distinction Wink

I do quite like JC anyway<sometimes>. To be fair for me to fit in with the 'Cheshire Set' I'd need to sell my silver Full Fat and buy a green one (poss next anyway; if I can't get a grey one) I also need to buy more horses :-S

I agree with the comment that although I don't like the sport it's preferable to X's Ml'sand Q's mainly because I need to drag heavy boxes off road. That said I've long had a soft spot for the disco. Like a sport but with real ground clearance and decent boot space.
Thumbs Up

United States 2005 Range Rover HSE 4.4 V8 Chawton White

There is a HUGE US market for "sport" SUVs.
Apparently, there's an unlimited supply of jackasses, too.
It's a 5,000 + lb hunk of non-aerodynamic truck.
so 0-60 in a "sport" is 2 seconds faster than in a FF.
Really?
who cares?

"My house is bigger than your house" is a game with many players.
JLR is just catering to the retards who think SUVs should go fast.
They're still crap drivers.
Hang up the phone.
Use your signals.
it's not that hard..

The "chav" vehicle of choice seems to be an Escalade here. Jim

@Jim Laughing Rolling with laughter

Very true. I drive the escalade when I was over in TN- grade A PoS! but at least in the US your roads are a reasonable size!

I saw one "see sawing" it's way around a bend in Lincolnshire here as it almost got stuck- engine sounds fantastic but I never saw one towing anything and I think the fuel economy could actuslly hit double figures if they prised off the x00lbs of chrome.

Whistle Thumbs Up

Pretty sure its aimed as an X5 competitor, as already mentioned above.

I had a Disco 2 with the Active Cornering Enhancement system, and it was brilliant. Was told I'd have to get an RRS if I still wanted that.

A few people I know have gone to RRS from a FF as they say it suits their "nip and tuck" driving style better.....

To be fair, suppose its all about dynamics. That said, I've never been in an RRS so can't comment in any shape or form really.

My Uncle is a Police Advanced/Pursuit Driving Instructor in Derbyshire and he has a 3.0d X5. I understand why he's gone that way- he presses on sometimes, and the FF is not ideal in that respect, he likes his BM's and so do I.

I just prefer to be sat in an RR.

Given that the average X5 is about as useful off-road as a pair of ballet slippers, why doesn't he drive a 5 Series Touring?

X5s and their ilk compromise on-road handling by being a foot further off the floor than they need to be and at the same time are no use off-road.

He's had loads of cars, as you can imagine. He had a 525 and a 325 back in the late 90's.

He had a Merc C class for ages, and a Shogun before that.

He is doing up a farm in France, so has a fully loaded trailer etc. X5 prob more useful than 5 series.

I did say that I like the X5, but it has a "normal" BMW dashboard, when you could be sat looking at the work of art that is the Range Rover dash.

His reply was " a work of art that rattles and creakes".

Made me laugh.

The RRS is, in my opinion, poorly named. It isn't sporty at all. As has been pointed out, it has never been faster than the same engine applied in the FFRR.

Mine doesnt Squeek or Rattle.... Though to be fair i dont sport any Gangsta rims and my back wheels arent toe-ing in and eating thru stupidly expensive tyres, and doesn't want to try and ingest some swirl flaps...

An old colleague from work got one recently as well after his pug 406 and does like the sporty feel though the tyre and flap issues do scare him a bit but i think he will likely get rid before they get bad lol FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's
