United Kingdom 2004 Range Rover Vogue 4.4 V8 Oslo Blue

IPad! I've got one and never use my laptop any more. I got the pad mainly to use in work as they clamped down on our Internet and 12h shifts are long without interweb. I tether my pad to my iPhone and surf till my hearts content. Never had a problem doing it. Now I dont use it for documents but I'm sure it would be great if needed. My 2 year old is amazing on it, he loads and closes his apps and plays the games and knows how to find his videos so they are very easy to use. I have little exposure to android but what I do have I found them quite hard to navigate. Probably due to lack of use etc rather than a quality of product. [img]http://www.fuelly.com/driver/rob2529/range-rover[img/]

Looks like what it comes down to, is whether you want a 'open' or 'closed' system. The only real criticism of the Ipad is that it's a closed system, which you can't fiddle with. The thing is, it just works, and you wouldn't want to. I think it's an objection which is largely hypothetical. Probably 90% of users or more would never want it any other way, and it's actually also one of the key strengths of the Ipad.

Bottom line, if you're a techie, and you want to be able to really fiddle with the programming, then the Ipad is not for you. If you just want a great looking tablet which works really well, is easy to use, and has millions of useful apps, then it is! Range Rover-less at the moment - Pining!

Cant stop myself from having my say on this - having worked on virtually every operating system under the sun, virtually all makes of personal computer, been a programmer, app developer, tech support, network engineer and now in sales I cannot fault the day I converted from windows to Mac. (have to agree the Nokia 6510 was the best phone ever for calls).

My Apple products cover iPod, iPhone, iPad, Mac book and apple TV - not one has gone wrong in the years (in some cases) I have had them, they are still as fast today as they always were, the build quality is spot on and as had been said many times - they just work, they don't make you work to use them.

It is a religious war but I know which side I am on.

PS - friend of mine went for a Galaxy tab as his smart phone and looked like Dom Jolly when making calls without the BT headset Smile "On first name terms with my local Dealer......now."

Have a look at the other technologies you have in your house, phones,TV, PC's and the way you access your data whether that be music, video, office stuff etc. Also have a good hard think about what you actually want the product you buy to do. I have convinced many people to get a netbook instead of an iPad/Galaxy based upon their likely usage.

Apple products will expect you to use their built in software to access these things which means you have to work in the way they have chosen for you. If this is OK for you (and for millions it is) then an iPad is the way to go.

If however, you have a certain way of doing things technologically that you like, you will have more freedom to continue that way with an Android device, Galaxy Tab.

I run an android smartphone, and regularly set up and use Android tablets for home and work, and to be honest, don't find them any less or more restrictive than what I have seen of Apple products. I believe that the initial "out of box" experience is probably better with an iPad, but you may find as time goes by that you are restricted in what you can do / want to do.

On principle I would not buy Apple products, as I believe their ethos in controlling how their users use their products falls outside of the spirit of technological advancement.

But think again as to whether you really need a touch screen device...... .
Experience is the only genuine knowledge, but as time passes, I have forgotten more than I can remember Wink

Got a blackberry Playbook as a freebie from work to make up for Censored Blackberry Bold phone.
It seems to work well and has become the default browser at home. However it runs a blackberry operating system not android or microsoft so I think that might limit apps The plus side is as its about as popular as a turd in a punch bowl and they cant sell them so quite cheap for what you get technology wise and when playing video I think the screen is very good, it is more compact/portable than the I pad I use at work, I pad is good but overpriced IMHO And only the market leader because apple got the marketing right same as they have with most recent products (bit like a RRS or Ejoke) Mine was a blue one! I'm a techie, a programming background to be exact, but I know I prefer an iPad as when I am at home I want stuff "that just works" rather than dicking around with settings to get the best out of it. My list of Apple tech has grown over the last year or two to:

Macbook Pro 17" (16Gb ram + SSD) used for work
    Thunderbolt display
    iPad 1,2 & 3
    iPhone 3G, 4, 4S x2
    Macbook Air 11"
    AirPort Extreme
    TimeCapsule
    Magic Mouse
    Wired + Wireless keyboards
    Remote
    Apple TV

About the only issue I had was the brand of SSD I put in my Macbook didn't support trim natively, so a tiny bit of hacking ensured that worked. I work with Microsoft technology in my job so I have exposure to both sides and to be honest Windows 7 runs better in a VM on my Mac than I have ever seen it run Natively on a similarly priced laptop.

had an iphone and got frustrated with the fact that apple wanted me to do things their way so a brought an andriod...

andriod is very flexible but the hardware is rubbish so that went into the drawer...

got an iphone 4 and jailbroke it, now i have a high quality phone [hardware] and the flexibility of customising it to the way i want.

i know i'm talking about a phone here but it relates to tablets as well.. ... - .- -.

I am your average punter - use PCs at work but no real clue about programming or tecchie stuff Thumbs Up

Got iPad 1 & iPhone 4S - they both worked straight out of the box, my son (aged 3) loves the apps & so do I! Have even bought a car & booked the train journey all from my iPhone in the car!

As said a few times - they just work which is all we want them to do Thumbs Up Thumbs Up Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?

United Kingdom 2014 Range Rover Vogue SE SDV8 Corris Grey

Yeah, so I used to have a Macbook Pro 17 which was given to me as part of my job (Datacentre Design Architect) and I ended up bootcamping it to Win-7. That was a couple of years ago and my opinion of Mac-OS for what I need hasn't changed. It simple isn't fit for purpose in a corporate environment where I need to use software like AutoCAD and MS Visio.

However, at home it was rather good, finding my printers, NAS box and wireless with zero fuss. I always did like SWMBO's i-Phone as well if I'm honest.

So, since I am ditching the Galaxy S2 phone all I need is email and document viewers on the move and it has to be able to function as a wireless hotspot for when I need to connect my laptop to the corporate VPN. Looks like a trip to PC World to try them all out this weekend. I would have just gone for the galaxy tablet but a colleague reckons the Apple Retina display is a lot better, but I thought Samsung made all this hardware anyway ??

How hard can it be ? :S

Dom
