I've just checked the bush you highlighted David with a pry bar, it was changed when I got the car at the main agents. I've only had the car about 6 months & the bush is worn out! This could be the place that's knocking! I'll replace it when I get chance, just assumed that because it was only 6 months old it couldn't be worn out. I changed everything trying to find this bloody knocking Rolling Eyes Range Rover 4.4 V8 Vogue

Don't get too excited!

That bush (actually the whole arm) was one of the first bits I changed. Still knocks!

I think the off side arm was changed before I bought it, I do wonder if the knock could be transferring over, and the off-side arm was not tightened with the weight on the wheels? Something else to try.

I've just removed my front drop links to see if they are causing the knocking (both new OEM parts in last 6 months) they're both fine & have no play. I went for a drive without the anti-roll bar drop-links and it's still knocking, so that rules out the anti roll bar and drop links. Big Cry Question is do they have a right way up? Just something else to check while it's in bits Confused Range Rover 4.4 V8 Vogue

Another frustrating day.

My knock had got much worse, so bad I was sure I would find it this time.

Got the car rocking by jumping up and down on the side steps, quickly found play in the N/S ARB drop link (less than 8 months old).

Took both drop links off, went for a drive, Much Better, but original knock (man holes, pot holes) still there.
Big Cry

Had read a post elsewhere where someone fixed a knock by tightening the washer fluid reservoir. Mine was not loose, but there was some play in the lower attachment clip. Took off all the under trays, managed to force a piece of thin rubber into the clip, no more play!

Still knocking
Big Cry

Had bought new inner and outer track rod ends a month or two back (shotgun principal).

Went to change these but found the Moog inner track rod end is not a suitable replacement, has much less articulation than the original.

Found out when trying to put everything back together, and couldn't get the track rod low enough to engage the new ball joint with the hub. So had to take it all apart again and re-fit the old inner.
Mad

Finally, carefully reassembled alll the undertrays, replacing missing spire clips and screws so now all the undertrays are tight and rattle free.

Knock still there.
Big Cry

Ho hum.

David

New Landrover inner trackrod end fitted, still knocking.
Big Cry

I'm changing track a bit.

Glideman, try thumping the gearbox sub-frame. I get a slight metallic noise from the front left corner, could be the knock.

Problem is, subframe bushes don't seem to be listed as a separate part, and the complete subframe is a £200 (edit, thanks Dan) plus part, and I'm not that confident.

More digging to do...

I've just given up trying to solve this on mine ... turn the radio up loud enough and you don't hear it anymore ...

Going to work on the rear bushes this weekend - hopefully that solves the cart spring squeak! African Bush Junkie ... in London!

Thanks David will try that.

The noise isn't coming from the catalytic converter is it? Sounds a bit heavy for that though Confused

I would have thought it would have been blatantly bleedin' obvious by now I have NO CLUE where it is coming from!

Wink

Does sound too heavy, clonk not rattle.

Bit like a gearbox sub-frame might sound!

I had a knock from the front suspension start a few months back.
Nothing major at first but over the last week it got louder and louder.
So after doing some research on here I at least new where to look. Getting a friend to rock the car I noticed the droplinks had a lot of play in them so thought it was best to start with them.
This is what the old ones looked like when removed.

Just ordered a pair of drop links cos they're only a fiver each so thought I'd give those a go first! My Previous RR's!

Currently in Charente Maritime and I also have a clonky front suspension. However, what seems worse is that when steering slightly right there is a vibration that has started to get worse, feels like it is part of the right front suspension, assume its a bush or track rod end. Any ideas?? Have 600 miles to drive back before I can get it checked :0(
