Just make sure to check before buying your parts because some have the square electrical connector and some a rounded one....

You can get aftermarket replacement actuators for less than £20 on eBay. Part no. LR036573 They are the same part as used on some BMW models part no. 34216794618.

You'll need to use the 2 spanners to undo the threaded sheath that covers the splined shaft on the diff.

Unless of course your rear wheels are on the ground, which I will doubt as you are dropping ...

That's normal. From cold, the vehicle will hold onto the lower gears for longer. This is purposely to raise the temperature in a shorter amount of time.
