Update.
With the rangie up in the air I checked the oil level in the gearbox, happy with the level.
Unplugged the electrical sleeve and checked for contamination of oil and dirt and spilt wires.. ... |

| no, gear selector is smooth. ive tried the HDC switch that works ive also used the low/high range switch and i can hear the low box engage and drive in low box . all seems to work as one would expect |
